AUTO SPIES EXCLUSIVE: Chrysler's 30 day return policy-We find the catch
Chrysler recently announced a 30 day return policy on their cars for their latest promotion.

Sounds too good to be true right?

Well, based on the fine print the Spies show you that it is too good to be true.

Here are the stipulations:

This policy requires the customer to:

Pay tax and license

PAY 5% OF MSRP AS A RESTOCKING FEE PLUS $.50 A MILE!

Leases are excluded

Purchase can not involve a trade-in

Must be financed thru Chrysler

But aside from that, it's a great program! ;)

Suppose you buy a 30k Chrysler (reasonable) and drive 1,000 miles in one month on it (reasonbale)you would be charged 1,500 dollars restoking fee and 500 dollars for the milage for a total charge of 2,000 dollars. That works out to be just a dollar north of 65 bucks a day. That turns out to be about 15 dollars more per day or about 450 per month than renting a Caddilac DTS from Alamo. Also I don't think that Chrysler will refund you the different taxes/registration fees or insurance. Not a bad idea for Chrysler to catch the people that just wanted to get a car for 30 for "free" But in the end it is not so bad that if you suffer some financial problems or just really hate the car you won't loose as much if you just sold it after a month.

I am pretty sure that the general public is "smart" enough to know that they can't just purchase a new car and bring it back on the 29th day. I knew there was a catch.

Based on Chewy's example, the $2,000 plus tax and license would be closer to $5,000. Which would still be better than trying to sell the car as used...but still ridicilous. Bottom line, there is no cooling off period, think it though its a big purchase.
