What Does Driving Have To Do With Obesity? TONS...
If you've noticed that your waist has been growing and you're driving has increased, there is a good reason for it. According to researchers at the University of Illinois, there is a pretty good correlation between obesity and driving.

The data points aren't sourced from a scientific test or anything; however, it does make an interesting conversation piece.

One peculiar aspect of the numbers was the time lag between the two variables. For example, the number of miles driven in 2004 is correlated to obesity in 2010.

With that said, that means we can "predict" what will happen with obesity in the next several years. Let's see if the results hold true!

...AMERICANS are getting fatter: obesity rates have risen 74% in the past 15 years to nearly 28% of the adult population. And they are driving more: the number of miles driven by each licensed driver (VMT/LD), excluding commercial vehicles, increased by an average of 0.6% a year between 1988 and 2008. Academics at the University of Illinois have  found a striking correlation between these two variables...

There is a HUGE difference between correlation and proving causality. This little detail escapes most. For example, Bobby Henderson, founder of The Church of The Flying Spaghetti Monster (www.venganza.org), has established an inverse correlation between the increase in natural disasters over the past 200 years and the decrease in the number of pirates during this same period. From this correlation, he concluded that The Flying Spaghetti Monster wants us to wear pirate costumes, and for lack of this, He is punishing us with natural disasters.

Ridiculous, you say? Well, that's the difference between correlation and proving causality.

@Steve

That's why I said "predict" and also noted it wasn't scientific evidence of anything...

If true, god help us with obese people who are behind the wheel of a Toyota or Lexus. The skinnies can't even pilot those correctly!
