Could This Go Down In History As Jaguar's BIGGEST Mistake?

Every manufacturer makes mistakes. It's just a part of business.

Any business, really, come to think of it.

Though one usually stands out from the others as being the big flub up. For example, Agent 001 insists that if Lincoln built the Continental concept with the suicide doors, we would not even had known the Chrysler 300 existed. I like to think he's right since Lincoln could have executed the concept pretty nicely.

For Jaguar though, it seems that the brand needed a bit of life injected into its DNA at the turn of the millenium. The F-Type was suppose to be that car. Not the dreaded X-Type that eventually came about.

I remember seeing this car for the first time. Man, it just SPOKE to me.

Am I ALONE here or was this the car that has Jaguar saying "Shoulda, woulda, coulda..."

With the E-Type of 1961, Jaguar was back in a big way. Essentially a spiritual successor to the legendary XK120 of the 1940s and ‘50s, the E-Type had everything going for it: looks, performance and price.

Since then, much has changed for the brand. The malaise of the 1970s, the reliability woes of the ‘80s and the reheated design language of the ‘90s all placed a burden on the Big Cat.

I will leave the tired 'ol lamentations of past mistakes to the typical know-nothing twenty-somethings that seem to overpopulate these sites. The best thing about the past is that... well, it's in the past. I wonder if cruise ship blogs are filled with complaints about the Titanic. The point is now that Tata is at the reins and new management is on board with a fat checkbook Jaguar is poised better than any manufacturer to be relevant now and in the future. The product over the next few years is amazing and only Jaguar is lithe enough and responsive enough to make it happen. Forget the old X-TYPE. Wait till you see the new stuff. Leave history for historians.

And my wife's '03 X'Type 3.0 has been extremely reliable. Go figure! (Although I do wish she got the Audi A4 instead.)
