Chrysler Vehicles Improving But Still Falling Short Of The Mark
Chrysler Group LLC the U.S. automaker controlled by Fiat SpA, improved its Dodge Durango sport utility vehicle and Charger sedan as its models continued to trail rivals in overall quality, Consumer Reports said.
While redesigns of the Durango and Charger won the vehicles “very good” road-test scores, the models placed below offerings from Ford Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp. (7203) and General Motors Co. (GM), the non-profit magazine said in an e-mailed statement. Consumer Reports didn’t give either vehicle a “recommended” label, its highest ranking.

Blazinboy: "Chrysler needs a complete overhaul of it's products and unfortunately Fiat does not want to spend THAT much money."
Blazinboy, Fiat SpA HAS been spending that much money to improve and/or overhaul Chrysler's products by 2012. This includes recent plant investments in Sterling Heights, MI, Toledo, OH, and Dundee, MI.
They can't concentrate on just one aspect of improving Chrysler's business at the expense of others. They have to concentrate on ALL aspects, including plant improvements as well as vehicle improvements.

First of all the last thing Chrysler needs to do is to focus on pleasing Consumer Reports. Consumer reports has never liked Chrysler and probably never will. Chrysler has never pandered to CR. If one takes the time to review reputable critics on Chryslers current achivements they will find a surprising difference of fact.

Look Fiat had to make cake out of total crap. They had a limited budget to do it. Some model redo's came out better then others but the bottom line is this. You have to applaud Fiat for their effort.True the 300/Charger chassis is related to an old Mercedes E class. Chrysler has now tweeked the car so much that it is quite a different vehicle now. Same for the Grand Cherokee. The 200 and Avenger they were not quite so successful with. The cars don't drive all that bad but it's that damm greenhouse from the Sebring that spoils it.Still it is an improvement and will suit some non car person just fine if they can save money over a Camry or Accord etc.In 2013 Chrysler will have all new platforms for the 200/Avenger/Caliber/Compass etc.If anything Fiat is so far very astute to American tastes and they are not about to impose the European look on US based Chrysler/Dodge or Jeep models. They will be styled to look and drive "American" even if the platforms are Fiat based.Fiat is so unlike Daimler and Cerberus it is not funny! They actually understand the need for product. The fact that they did these restyles of existing products in a record short period of time shows how talented they really are. This will be a good mariage between them and Fiat/Chrysler will be successful in the long run.
