SPIED: FIRST Spy Photographs Of Mercedes-Benz's A-Class Snapped -- A3 & 1-Series Put On Alert
At the 2011 New York Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz introduced a daring new concept not-so-originally-named the Concept A-Class. Essentially, it appears to be an entry-level Mercedes that is aiming to take on the Audi A3 and BMW 1-Series.

Given that the last attempt at an entry-level Benz in the U.S. was the C230 Kompressor hatchback, it's nice to see the marque giving it another go 'round.

Since the Concept A-Class' debut, we haven't seen any prototypes running around until now, although, we did see an image that leaked from a patent office. This patent image provides a nice, detailed look at what we should expect and if you notice, the vehicle spied has the same window line.

That doesn't look like a coincidence to us.

With that said, we want to know:

Will Mercedes-Benz's A-Class have a shot against the other German competition?

They have to meet cafe standards for gas mileage. All mfg's will have to bring out smaller cars or increase the mileage of current models. The HP war will soon be over. That's why were seeing more turbo's and hybrids as well, the germans have a much tougher task ahead because they don't have toyota like Lexus does or honda like acura or nissan like infiniti does.

Why would the Audi A3 or BMW series-1 need to go on alert?
It's the Honda CR-Z, Mazda3 Sport and Lexus CT which need to be concerned (or not)..
No self-respecting Series-1 or A3 owner would be caught dead in any of those over-styled clown cars...

The grille material looks like it made from the leftovers of a crappy 60's disco porn set.

This car is going after the GTI and small Peugeot market because I see both of them in the design.

I fear mercedes has been taking night courses at the Pontiac school of automotive design. They have not gone as far as Pontiac's tacky snap-on body molding, face hood scoops and spoilers, but the exaggerated body accents are getting there.
