Maserati SUV will be powered by the same HEMI V8 found on Grand Cherokee SRT8
The upcoming all-wheel drive Maserati SUV will be powered by a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine used on the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 instead of just any regular 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, according to a Top Gear report. Fans have been eagerly waiting for this SUV ever since the Maserati Kubang GT Wagon concept came out in 2003

And this is a good idea how? I don't think the thing will have a Detroit engine in it. Oh wait, that engine is built in Mexico!

That is a lot of HP, I have heard of the Hemmi as peaky? It was one of the writers from JP magazine, he stated it when discussing engine swaps for the Jeep Unlimited. Any informed opinions here?

Oh...I forgot - we will hear the crap about it being a pushrod engine and how low-tech it is.

Theman440, you sound like a Dodge guy,lol , I like performance period, I get a kick out of peoples un informed opinions, I go by numbers, not opinions, although it is interesting to hear opinions, but bias is just ignorant, isn't the Vett a push rod engine too? Who says that it can't perform?

Bsbb, how about put it against the V-6 ecoboost in the F-150, Although I like the sound of the Hemmi way better. Yes the V-6 Ford beat the Hemmi, even towing up a grade.

A premium brand like Maserati should have premium engines so should stick with Ferrari-derived engines. The usually great engine of an Italian premium car is a big reason why some pick it over say a German rival.

Bollocks

No Non-Italian Engine will power a Maserati.

Whatever idiot wrote this or the original article needs to go find another Hobby as clearly they know nothing about Vehicle Manufacturers.

Title says "Maserati SUV will be powered by the same HEMI V8 found on Grand Cherokee SRT8"

So my comment stands.

No they don't have to use GM transmissions, and up until the 5 speed auto of the 90's they used the bullet proof ZF 4hp22 and 4hp22EH transmissions. The GM transmission actually wasn't that bad though. And the engine in the mini wasn't a Chrysler engine, it was however co-developed with Chrysler and you see how long that lasted before the sought another manufacturer. BMW didn't have an engine that could be used in the mini at the time. While the Hemi is a powerful engine, I doubt a prestigious company like Maserati will travel back to the 70's and use an OHV pushrod v8 when they have had Ferrari derived engines. Thats like going from carbon ceramic disc brakes to drums.

85bmw745i,, Neons outside of the U.S. were sold as Chryslers. Besides the 2.0 L they used the same 1.6 L unit found in the Minis prior to 2007. The 1.6 L engine was a variation of the 2.0 L SOHC engine designed by Chrysler and built by Tritec. So yes the 1.6 was a Chrysler engine.

The more I hear about this SUV the more problems I'm having with it. I don't know I just don't see why Maserati should have an SUV. I just don't know.
