Auto Bailout Criticized By House Oversight And Government Reform Committee
The chairman of a House panel sharply criticized the government's $50 billion bailout of General Motors Co. on Wednesday.

Contrary to the Obama administration's assertions, "it is far from clear the bailout has succeeded in its goals of revitalizing the company," said Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform committee's panel on regulatory affairs, stimulus and government spending.

The panel held a hearing Wednesday on the bailout's long-term impacts.

They should have let them and Chrysler fail. America does not need to know how to do large scale manufacturing anymore. As long as China, Korea, Japan, France, Germany and Italy can do it all we need to know how to do is purchase what they make. Or if they can engineer it, design it and install it in our country we can supply the people who turn the wrenches and push the buttons.

It's clear many of you don't fully understand how important it is that the US start working to retain industrial-type jobs and companies. When the US was producing the steel, making the parts, assembling the vehicles, and selling them to the global market --- that was the optimal market setup. Other countries have effectively undercut the US on the "entry-level job level" such that most of the jobs that actually "made things" in America are virtually gone.

We ship our raw resources around to world (China, India, Malaysia, S Korea, etc), they assemble & make products, then they ship that stuff back to us, and we buy it for 2x-10x what it would cost if the product was made here. It's cheaper for the company to make it, but they charge us much more.

Wow took them only around 3 years for them to realize it was a stupid idea. I thought our government was slower than that. Good for them their catching up.
