You can only put so many front ends on the same product for 20 years before it becomes an eye sore. Look at the super duty. Same cab since it came out and all they keep doing is changing the front grill and fenders but the rest of the cab is the same. This was the last of the true compact pickups since everything else has grown too big and fat. They are all now mid-size, and almost as big as the full size truck of the 90's.

I'm a little sad to see it go. But if it doesn't sell well then there is no reason for it to be around. Compact trucks are still going to be needed so hopefully there will be something that will take it's place from Ford or any other manufacture. I doubt Ford will take a look at that segment anytime soon though.

No it is only a tiny bit larger but appears much larger. Also it is available in crew cab.

What is sad is that the Ranger went on for about 30 years as pretty much the same truck. No complete redesigns, ever. That is what killed it's sales! This truck used to be very popular and was made in 2 factories in the US.

I was recently looking for a pickup truck and wanted a "small" pick-up, not a full size like a F150. There are not really any good midsize pickups on the market. With the price of gas the way it is, and even a F150 V-6 maybe getting you in the mid to high teens in MPG figures, it would be great to bring back a competitive "small" pickup.

The Ranger that the rest of the world is getting soon looks great and is thoroughly modern. So, Ford, why won't it be sold here?

The Tacoma is the only real alternative to the vast selection of full size pickups out there.

Well, in the US there are the Nissan Frontier, the Dodge Dakota, the Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon and the Honda Ridgeline. Abroad there are other interesting options like the VW Amarok, Mitsubishi Triton, or the Holden Ute.

Had a '99 ext. with 31x10.5" tires. Worked great for camping in the mountains since it carried plenty of cargo but was narrow. A full size truck wouldn't fit many of the trails I took that vehicle on. The 4.0 V6 would easily tow over 5,000lbs too. Great little truck.
