UAW Finds Southern Autoworkers Not Interested In Handouts

The UAW is trying to hold its first successful organizing drive at a foreign-car factory in the U.S. To succeed, the union has to convince people like Rocky Long.

"I don't see any problems here. I don't see how they could help me out," said Long, who's worked at the Hyundai assembly plant in Montgomery, Ala., for five years. Of the union representatives who came to his home this year, he said, "I really didn't give them the time of day."

The last sentence in the article makes me sick. We should ship this guy off to Greece for a glimpse of what the future holds...oh, wait - it already happened here 4 years ago in Detriot.

It appears the work ethic down south is a major issue in the UAW's plan to colonize the region.

Fair pay and fair treatment eliminate the need for handouts.

What I take from this article is the auto workers in the non-union plants feel very grateful to have such a good job. Having lived in Michigan most of my life, Oakland COunty in MIchigan is one of the wealthiest counties in the United States. Cost of living is outrageous in this county. In addition, who needs the union kronies to add more to the price of each vehicle. The additional hourly wage difference paid to a UAW autoworker has to be made up somewhere. The "auto fairy" doesn't just give everyone a break on the purchase of their new car in order to pay for the hourly difference.

I was hoping the remaining pot smoking and beer drinking union workers (caught on TV) would eventually go away and get a real job. No wonder their UAW membership numbers are dwindling. The UAW is a dinosaur and the auto workers from the non-union plants know better. What is that saying, "Fool me once, shame on you; Fool me twice, shame on me". Good riddance UAW!!!

Hmmm... out of the ~350k members in the UAW, I wonder how many of them actually work in the auto industry... of the 20k ppl they rallied last year, half came from casinos/universities.

With that said, why did we give part of GM/Chrysler to Casinos and Universities?
