$71,000 for a loaded Audi A6 3.0, would you buy one?
Wow, this review on INSIDELINE caught my eye because the A6 was loaded with nearly everything and it came up to $71,000. Frankly, I was shocked.

Hell no. $71,000 puts you in a nicely optioned out 550i or E550.

@Houston: I built an Imperial blue 2011 528i w/ the M Sport package (loaded) and it was $79,499!

as as has been mentioned several times, you'll never see an A6 3.0T (or 2.0T or BMW 528 or 535 or Mercedes E350, etc.) with every available option and accessory. Ever. Yes, you can option them to ridiculous prices if your goal is to complain about how expensive they "can be". If you want to have an actual meaningful discussion, however, it's probably more useful to discuss how expensive they "actually are". And that's a whole lot less.

Yup. Sorry bro. I just trimmed down my 528i and I came out to $71,674...
*rolls eyes*
Why would I build one to "complain" about how much it costs? I built it to see where I need to be at when I am able buy one!

WTF did you put on that 528 to get it to $71k??? A very nicely equipped one has an MSRP in the low/mid $50's. A 535 with all the stuff most people would ever want is $60k-ish (M Sport, premium 2, etc.). A decked out 550 is around $70k unless you start putting crazy stuff on there no one ever gets. You are talking U.S. $ right?

JRobUSC they do sell fully loaded cars for people who buy within their means and not go the next level up which is why they have packages. You should try going to a dealership they all have fully loaded models at least where I live they do. Try not being so condescending and critical. If you don't like the topic then just don't post.

jrob: they're a little more than that....my 535 with sport, premium 2, active seating, etc was high $60s...and i could have spent more. all the 550s on the were mid to high 70s.

LOL,71K for a six cylinder A6 !? What is the V8 going to cost?
I would never pay that much for an Audi.

I expect the next report to be "executives at audi arrested for possession of drugs." how the hell can a car with a 3.0 liter engine cost 71k.

from a purely literal standpoint, no, for $71k I'd get a 550xi M Sport, not an A6 3.0T. But in reality, you'll never actually see an A6 3.0T with that much equipment, so it's a bit of a loaded question. The majority of them will be very nicely equipped for $10-15k less. And yes, I'd consider one for that.

Holy crap, those performance numbers are awesome. They blow the 535i away, 1/4 @ 102mph, .9g, 67mph skidpad......... not too shabby.
I've had all BMW's as my marque vehicles, I will definitely look at this vehicle(optioned down) next.
Kudos.

I think the performance is the bigger story here, the 8 speed auto maximizes the 3.0T V6 quite well.

The AWD probably helps much. Maybe a comparison with the 535xi is more appropriate

The A6 they reviewed had summer performance tires on it. The 535 had all seasons, which explains the difference in handling categories...

that sounds system is INSANE. just heard it in the new A7 last week. the A7 is, by the way, really really fun to drive. i prefer how it handled to my 535 (which has gotten softer to appeal to a broader audience, not happy about that).
if you're going to spend over $70k, might as well get the A7. way hotter looking, same chassis, same engine.

One thing a lot of you guys have not factored in is INFLATION.
QE1
QE2
Higher Crude and Steel Prices, Higher Commodity Prices.
HTF do you think these companies will stay afloat if the price of the vehicles stay unchanged ?

Real inflation is when EVERYTHING goes up, including wages.
And yet, wages have dropped or stayed the same. It is not inflation when:
1. wages go DOWN
2. housing prices go DOWN
3. economic activity contracts
So pricing a car higher when people make less money really doesn't work very well. Did I mention the price of commodities such as steel and copper is dropping? Unless Audi is pricing cars based on 2008 commodities prices.
So your explanation is not applicable.

No..No..No Premium car makers are raising their prices to make room
below for their downmarket premium offerings. To charge a premium price for an A1 Audi they have to raise prices up the food chain.

Exactly! This is why (I know off subject) a CTS base price use to be 29K and now its crept up to 35K. I'm almost certain the next generation will be hight than that...

Just priced out on Audiusa.com an A6 with everything BUT Bang&Olafsun.........
Price? 66k. Not bad. Same as a fully loaded S5. And that's WITH active Cruise.
You even get a Black headliner.
Now if I could only get one without a rear end that looks like a Jetta.
