WHICH and WHY? Which Car Has The BEST Exhaust Note, Period?

WHICH and WHY? Which Car Has The BEST Exhaust Note, Period?
Say what you will, but to me a car's exhaust note is really what is the finishing touch on a vehicle. Don't get me wrong, it still has to be stylistically intact from the inside out and have a fantastic powertrain, but that's only a portion of the equation.

Because if you don't have sound, you're missing something.

Case in point, when I drove the 2010 Ford Taurus SHO, I knew it had a killer exterior design, the interior was oh-kay -- nothing to write home about -- and it had a decent powertrain. And its sound? Well, it was the most uninspired thing ever. It didn't make one hair on the back of my neck stand up.

For cars like the Ferrari F355 and Lexus LFA though, they make you feel something. You take notice once you catch an earful.

With me the F355 is the pinnacle of sound. Even better, it sounds like a monster when equipped with a Capristo exhaust system. That's just me though. What say you, Spies?

WHICH vehicle do you think has the BEST exhaust note, bar none?

The Ferrari F355 is a two-seater sports car from the 90′s. The mid-engined, rear wheel drive sports car is powered by a V8 with a displacement of 3.5 liter and a performance of 380hp at 8,250rpm and maximum torque of 363Nm at 6,000rpm. A sprint from zero to 100km/h is done in 4.7 seconds, 0–160km/h in 10.8 seconds...

...This F355 Spider is outfitted with a Capristo Stage 1 exhaust system. The Stage 1 system has a bypassvalve, which opens above a certain rpm...

The Mercedes Benz sourced 7.3 liter V12 in the Pagani Zonda F. Do I need to explain?

Best exhaust note by engine size as follow:

Best exhaust note for a V6 engine is the Infiniti G35 and G37 coupe

Best exhaust note for a V8 engine is the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and Ferrari F430

Best exhaust note for a V10 engine is the Lambo Gallardo and Lexus LFA

Best exhaust note for a V12 is the Lambo Murcielago and Aston Martin DBS

most of those sound great....but the infiniti sounds pathetic. whining and very tin can sounding.

I agree with your list because I have never noticed the sound of a V6 until infiniti and have never heard one as distinguished or striking(if any has and disagrees please post it). That thing purrs like nobodies business and even at low RPMs. I love hearing it just roll through a parking lot and unlike rice mobiles it has the power to back it up (Nissan builds the best V6 in the industry). The Lexus LFA wins even though it is far from a common car it probably has the most distinctive sounding exhaust of any super car.

The Audi A-5 with an aftermarket exhaust sounds great too, although my 2007 Civic exhaust tone won't get me a ticket, unlike any of these performance vehicles, lol

Of course you can name exotic cars all day long but I'm going by obtainable to the everyday guy. For six figures you had better have a decent sounding exhaust note! So in my eyes, thats a given.

Best exhaust note PERIOD goes to Infinit's V6. I almost broke my neck when I first heard the Infinit's exhaust note. I thought it was just the G coupes and sedans but I saw a FX zipping in and out of traffic one day and it had the same note (just about).

Just my 2cents...

G35 sedans aren't that create. I think Infinii tones down the volume of the sedan. Coupe is much louder with more of a burble. My father has had 2 sedans and I can remember being a bit disappointed with the note.

I believe you are correct. The coupes sound far more aggressive than the sedans do.

I know what you mean and I LOVE the way it sounds I have the I35 and it hardly makes a sound but the G and FX make music.

Best Sound Ever as far as I am concerned is from the Porsche Carrera GT.

There is nothing out there that can match the Full Bore Scream of that V10

The M5/M6 V10 sound incredible at full throttle, high RPM wail. They sound pretty shitty at idle. Same with the E46 M3. The first time I ever heard any of them I thought something was broken... until I heard them unleashed. Then I loved them.

ill have to agree with veyron. The screaming sound of the zonda F - and zonda R with that merc sourced v12 is orgasmic. You can take your high reving ferrari and lfa lambo and about anything else. The zonda sounds like an F1 road car. No other way to put it. It just screams...

My 1988 e28 BMW M5 with B&B triflow exhaust over 6000 RPM. Even Harley riders can hear me coming (and give a thumbs up). I may be getting a little old for the noise, but I still love hearing the car alarms go off as I drive by when I take it to work in Philly on a Saturday.
