STICKER Shock! Guess HOW Much A SoCal BMW Dealer Is Charging OVER STICKER For A 2011 BMW 1M
To say that the 2011 BMW 1M is doing well with the press is an understatement. It's really rare that a car gets such smoldering reviews from every outlet -- well, at least every story I've read.

It's an international sensation that really has made a name for itself in a very short period of time. The worst thing about it, though? They're not making many.

For example, the U.S. is getting ONLY 800 units, approximately. The U.K.? Around 400 or so.

That means we're stuck with an economics 101 supply/demand problem. Tons of demand, not enough supply. So, prices may gouge.

That's the case at one SoCal dealership, which has marked the 1M up substantially. $40k substantially.

Even though I ADORE the 1M, it's definitely not worth upwards of $90 large. Sorry, Pacific BMW.

As a hardcore car enthusiast and BMW fan I couldn't wait to see the BMW 1M Coupe in person. So this morning (June 23) I get a phone call from my friend who had taken his BMW 335i for a software update calls me from the Pacific BMW in Glendale CA telling me they have a BMW 1M Coupe on the showroom floor. I ask the usual questions about how does it look in person?

He says pictures don't do this car justice you have to see it in person to appreciate the wheel flares they are huge.

So the next question is how much is the sticker and what do they want over sticker? Being a rare BMW I would assume they would add a few grand to the sticker. He tells me they haven't determined what they want over sticker but the sticker on the car is $54,635 with convenience package and premium package which is fare for a rare car like this.

Fast forward three hours later I decide to drive down to the dealer and check out the car in person and get an idea what they are asking for the car. When I get there the car looks amazing and I feel its a bargain for such a rare machine, until I go around the car and see the dealer markup of $40,000 over sticker price.

I just started to laugh so loud I think they knew what I was laughing at. So I snapped a few pictures and the over sticker sheet...

...The sheet displayed on the car is showing MSRP of $54,635 plus the $40,000 over MSRP for a grand total of $94,635...

It's not really all that much when you consider when the price is in current American dollars. ;)

It's only overpriced if no one buys it at that price. Free market ftw!!! Would I do it? Absolutely not, I'd wait a year and buy near invoice, but there are plenty of people out there with more money than brains...

Greedy dealers, stupid buyers - same old story. R8's used to go for 50K over list, now they are stacking up like firewood at my local dealers. Patience is a virtue.

If anything, I'll be able to find two of them for that price within a couple years...

I'll pass. Thank you though.

The problem is is that is dose not trickle down. Capitalism in a nut shell is to increase ones wealth, by paying controlling cost and unfortunately in today's world means paying slave wages.

If someone that doesn't know better (very possible in L.A.) they would pay this horrific number for the car. And some guy buys a M car and then complains about bad gas mileage, someone take his keys from him and give him a Kia. Shaking my head right now!!!

You have to understand where this dealership is located. Glendale is full of wanna-be players who walk in and bug the salesman for a lease payment with their hello introduction. And then ask, "with my cousin's brother, brother in-law's good credit, what could the payment be with no money out of pocket". Then let me test drive the car, and never see them again as they drive off in their white toyota camry with black wrapped roof..

So this sticker shock is for shock value, and if someone is willing to pay for the car at that price, thats what the car was worth to them.
