AutoSpies Relaunches as Car-Themed Digg Clone

We're big fans of digg.com, Slashdot and blogger. What we've tried to encapsulate with this new version of AutoSpies is the best of all worlds. We take the good from digg (article voting and user submissions), the good from Slashdot (editor initiated content), and the good from blogger (allowing users to post their own original content) and roll it all under one roof – but with an Automotive-only theme.

We have initially kept with the digg-style of voting to ease the transition from our old site, to the new features which our users will find familiar and easy to understand. While the whole idea of user promoted material grows from its infancy stage into the public domain, we thought it would be best to make their transition as easy as possible. Once we have built traction and our current users have become accustomed to our new design, then we will concentrate on further tailoring design aspects to our needs. At present, only a small portion of our homepage is dictated by user voting, our other areas comprise of articles with the most activity, AutoSpies editorials, Top Stories, Featured Writers and our current Photo Galleries.

Think of it as instead of releasing something too different, too soon, we've planned on a staged release to lessen the feature shock. Similar to a role an OS might want to take to gain market share. Enter in with your version that mimics the pioneer to ease "transition"; then move away as you build the application you sought after from the beginning. Perhaps it even reminds you of some automotive manufacturers too!
