Rav4 Review - Does This Ugly Duckling Finally Deserve Some Respect?

Rav4 Review - Does This Ugly Duckling Finally Deserve Some Respect?
In our recent Shootout comparison of nine small SUV/crossovers priced $29,000 or less, Toyota's Rav4 finished dead last.

Is it really that bad? One man now says no.

It was beaten in the $29K Shootout by the Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Escape; Honda CR-V, Dodge Journey, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Nissan Rogue and Subaru Forester in testing by a team of experts and a real family.

If I were getting a new small suv I would take a serious look at the Rav4, the photo above looks night and day to the one in the article, the photo of the rav4 in article is very drab and dated, but the one on the front page above looks great! I can imaging that the Hyundai Tucson may be better? But not that much, I do like the Toyota Rav 4 regardless of there current reputation.

Yes, the RAV4 now has a bad reputation due to the model years 2006-2008 - way too many repair issues to name, from transmission clunking, to steering column failure, to oil line breakage -- it's been a nightmare for RAV4 owners the last 5 years. Just check out any forum. I have a 2006 RAV4 V6 and it's been a non-Toyota experience for me the minute the car hit hit 36,000 miles. What a mess this car model has been for Toyota. I can only hope the new generation is improved.
