Yet Another Twist? Speed Cameras Begin Ticketing Drivers For Driving Too Slow!
Drivers who pass a photo radar location frequently drop their speed far below the legal limit to be absolutely certain no citation will come in the mail weeks later. In response, officials in Valencia, Spain have begun issuing photo tickets to drivers who are moving "too slow." Motorist Jesus Llorens received just such ticket in the mail on June 14 for sluggish driving past a camera in an Opel Vectra. The alleged offense happened in February at 11am in the tunnel of the Avenida del Cid.

Recently drove at 5mph under the speed limit in a local camera zone (50 in a 55 zone). It was far more dangerous to go that slow, compared to traveling ~10mph over the limit in the past. Friends have received $25 tickets for going as much as 2mph over, so there isn't much room for safely traveling through the area w/o getting a ticket.

It's all about making money, but slow drivers are just as dangerous as excessive speeders, driving with the flow is the best bet, but just be aware where the tax cameras are.

When I say past, I mean before the cameras presence. I was operating in the non-passing lane at the time I attempted this stunt of traveling under the limit. Really, the plan backfired on me. It was my way of protesting the cameras. My new protest is I refuse to do commerce in communities that support extorting motorists in the false name of safety. Or in other words, I vote with my pocket book.

I love the protest idea, don't buy from towns that rob you! then this highway robing would stop.

I'm all for it. If speeding is so bad for the public that we need cameras to penalize speeders, then driving too slowly should be ticketed as well. After all, cars driving unexpectedly slowly can cause people to slam on the brakes, and that will inevitably cause accidents. Might be a good way to get older drivers off the road - if they feel like they can't drive the speed limit safely, they can't drive.

I'd also like to see these cameras ticket vehicles for cruising in the fast lane when they aren't passing...and seat belt use while we're at it. These laws are all documented and well-known - if you don't follow them, that's on you.

Everyone cruises in the fast /passing lane, that is what I have noticed in America, I am one of them, although if someone wants to pass I am thrilled that they want a ticket more than I do, so I would move over to let them pass, is there something wrong with this? extra lanes make the traffic flow faster. Unless there is an idiot keeping pace with the slow lane and not moving over despite high beams and honking.

You have no business cruising in the FAST LANE.

It is called FAST / PASSING LANE for a reason.

If you are cruising at 70mph and I am travelling at 110mph you would have to have been checking your mirror every 5 or so seconds to notice me approaching and get out of the way in time without me having to slow down.

This is what most people do not understand, by cruising in the fast lane you inconvenience faster drivers because they usually have to slow down and flash you or both before you move over.

speedingticket1955.... It sounds like you cruise in the fast lane too, do you check your mirrors every five seconds too? I never clog up the fast lane, ever, what fool would want to? I am always estatic to let pigeons/speeders pass, and yes I do check my mirrors often, I usually never cruise in the fast lane unless the slower lanes are too slow or congested and cars are in all of the lanes, and yes I speed in the fast lane, now that I am unemployed I would happily drive in the slow lane, but if I were in a rush...What kind of car do you drive to be able to cruise at 120mph?
