Would You Buy One? Lexus To Launch Mini Hybrid SUV Based On RAV4

Last September, Toyota said the company would launch six new hybrids by the end of 2012.

Now, a report from the German car magazine AutoBild suggests that one of those is a new Lexus: a baby brother for the brand's hugely successful RX 450h hybrid crossover utility vehicle.

Really? Toyota to launch a mini hybrid Toyota RAV4 and call it a "Lexus". That sounds better as "Lexus" can't launch anything. Stop acting like they are special as they are not. And "Lexus" does not build cars by the way.

I think Hybrid should just be an option for it.

Platform sharing is ok. Platforms can be easily modified to suite a specific task.

Badge engineering a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and selling it as a Lexus GX is a crime on the other hand. :-p

ToyoLex should use the prototype RAV4 EV and make the “EV SUV/crossover”.
A second shot at the 1997-2003 Toyota RAV4 EV experiment, a possible Leaf competitor.
Would be a first Lexus of its kind, like the Lexus RX 300 was in 1999.
The CX 300 EV?

Although Hybrids are good, I think Lexus should focus more on their normal vehicles as they are falling behind competition, then when they have decided that they are in the competition, then decide to make vehicles that other brands can start to compete with (COmpact SUV, hybrid), but at the moment, the IS, ES '& GS are waiting for redesign...

I wonder what Lexus can do with a true minivan, unlike the R-class. It should be mid-engined, like the Previa,... Perhaps a nice, boxer engine paired with a powerful electric motor and a huge battery pack - all squeezed under the cabin floor! If one were to have a truly spacious vehicle, a minivan just might be the answer! :P

Hey don't waste more time and money, start to make a complete electric car like Nissan does.
