Study Reveals Not All Hybrids Do Well At Saving Gas Or Planet

Toyota and Ford are producing the best hybrid vehicles, according to the Union of Concerned Scientists.

In its annual review of hybrids, the organization ranked the Toyota Prius, Ford Fusion hybrid and Honda Civic hybrid as the top vehicles in the nonluxury segment of the market. The nonprofit group rated the Lincoln MKZ hybrid, built by Ford, and the Lexus CT 200H, a Toyota product, as the top luxury models.

Not all hybrids are meant to necessarily save fuel. In some hybrid vehicles, the system is meant to increase the overall power/torque output to lay down move force on the pavement.

Many luxury gas-electric hybrid systems are broad in explanation for this reason. They want the general public to "think" their hybrid vehicle is helping the green initiative; but in reality, it ain't doing anything or very much to conserve natural resources.

Honda missed-out on the hybrid "craze" that the Toyota Prius started (though it wasn't the 1st). The Accord V6 Hybrid offered more power than the normally aspirated V6, but didn't increase the fuel consumption ratings either. Not many were sold b/c the general public thought it was supposed to be saving gas, not pushing more power.

Why would anybody be begging to own a hybrid? And don't say it's because of high fuel prices. I live in area where I'm afforded the greatest luxury transportation of all - the ability to not need a car at all. No fuel, insurance, maintenance, repair...fuel prices can rise as high as they like. I couldn't care less. And I'm not driving any hybrid, either.

I guess high gas prices don't affect you? EVERYTHING you buy is affected by high fuel prices. Even if you don't drive a car you benefit from lower demand for fuel.

Who cares about your opinion if you don't need a car, for those who rely on cars, hybrid is a great altrnative until fully electric cars will be available with a range of at least 300 miles...
