Should Hyundai Take The Gamble And Create A $100,000 Supercar To Go Alongside The Equus?

Should Hyundai Take The Gamble And Create A $100,000 Supercar To Go Alongside The Equus?
There's a rumor running around the auto industry's hallways that Hyundai, the South Korean automaker that recently began kicking everyone's butt, is working on a V8-powered supercar that would cost between $80,000 and $100,000 and take on some of the most storied performance machines on the road, including the Nissan GT-R and the Porsche 911.

It would be a coupe, according to the rumblings, and its owners would get the same perks as buyers of the Equus sedan, including an iPad owners manual and pick-up and delivery service when the car needs servicing.

This could become a flop like the VW Phaeton. Don't get me wrong, it may end up being a really amazing car, but who would spend that kind of money on a Hyundai.

Well the Genesis and Equus werent a flop(the vote is still out on the Equus though), just proves ironically people are more willing to spend high dollars on a Hyundai than a VW. As far as this simple rumour, I think it would be a bad idea if anything they should turn the Genesis coupe into an actual Luxury sports coupe with an interior to match and give it a V8 option. Or at least make a luxury coupe (or CLS style car) priced as much as the Genesis Sedan maybe rising to the price of the Equus or beyond in top form. I dont think Hyundai has proven its performance potential enough to produce a supercar.

NO...NO...NO...NO...NO...did I say No !!!! Develop a balls out competitor to the WRX STI to establish a positive rep for your engineering group. Do it right (don't blow it) and they will beat a path to your showrooms plus enthusiast mags will sing your praises to all. Just do it...but do it right and charge no more than $30K !

Why not just come up with an entire new brand that rivals Lexus, Audi, BMW and Porsche? At least with a new brand you can get another name, no logo and it would feel more of a luxury brand rather than coming from the same lot as the Accent. I beleive if that did that, it would out do Infinti.

LOL, as if anyone would buy it! Hyundai needs to come back down to earth. No one is going to pay that for a car from them.

I'm guessing most of those who say nobody will buy a $100,000 Hyundai probably said nobody will buy a $40,000 Hyundai a few years ago. Hyundai has sold over 15,000 Geneses in the first 6 months of this year and they really don't appear to be slowing down. This industry-wide ignorance of what they are doing is only going to make the market even more ugly. Ignore the competition and you will no longer be the competition to them.

I don't think they have the correct branding for a car in that price range...they should do like the Japanese makers and create a luxury brand. I remember when Lexus and Acura came out...people were buying them and didn't know that they were made by Toyota and Honda..Mazda opted not to do it and produced the 929 which had limited success.

Not now maybe in 3-4 years time. A CLS/A7 rival under US60K at this stage would be interesting.

I would buy it as long as it comes with a real Supercar for free.

A fireball of negative fan boy panic erupts whenever Hyundai and cars are mentioned in a thread here. Don't worry, Hyundai is not losing any sleep or market share over your negativity towards their brand.

They are too busy selling lots of cars month after month, after month.

Frankly a waste of money for them.I say stay in the current market zone and simply continue to make better and better products. Thats what's gotten Hyundai improved sales.

I dont think so...I admit that they improved in design competing against Lexus/Infiniti but creating a $100,000.00 high performance car would be way out of their league.
