Audi revamps A5 line-up
Audi has revealed a host of mid-life changes to its entire Audi A5 model line-up. They include refreshed styling, new engines and chassis tweaks aimed at bolstering the coupé, cabriolet and Sportback models’ visual appeal, fuel economy and dynamic ability.

All of the engines in the A5’s new range — three petrol and four diesel — feature direct injection and forced induction, as well as stop-start and an energy recuperation system as standard. CO2 emissions are down by as much as 22 per cent in some models, and fuel consumption has fallen by 11 per cent on average.

The entry-level model for all A5s is now the four-cylinder petrol 1.8 TFSI. This engine has been substantially revised and now produces 168bhp (up from 158bhp). In coupé guise, economy is improved to 49.6mpg (from 39.8mpg) and CO2 emissions fall to 134g/km (from 164g/km).

The 2.0 TFSI’s power output remains unchanged at 211bhp. A 268bhp supercharged 3.0 TFSI V6 is new to the line-up.

The 175bhp 2.0 TDI is the entry-level diesel. It returns a remarkable 60.1mpg and emits 122g/km of CO2 when mated to a six-speed manual gearbox in the A5 coupé.

Three V6 engines complete the A5’s diesel line-up. A 3.0 TDI is available with either 201bhp or 242bhp, and they will be joined later in the A5’s life cycle by a low-emissions model that already meets EU6 emissions regulations.

Chassis tweaks to all A5s include revised rear suspension bearings and damper tuning for “precise handling and greater comfort”. New 17in alloy wheels come as standard, with up to 20in alloys offered as options. A revised electromechanical power steering system also features across the range.

Chief among the styling changes for all A5s is a bolder look for the front headlights, which now feature the ‘wave’ LED design introduced on recent Audis, including the A1, A6 and A8.

Other styling changes at the flatter, wider-looking front end include a new bumper with larger air intakes and a revised grille. At the rear, all A5s get a new bumper and redesigned lights with optional LEDs.

The changes inside are more subtle. They include new steering wheel designs, a new selector for automatic transmissions, a new finish for the instrument panel and centre console, a revised optional MMI infotainment system and a range of new upholstery and trim options. A five-seat option is also now available for the A5 Sportback.

Looks too soft- not diggin' it.

Better get your S5 now before they change it.

Audi not so good at facelifts compared to say BMW/Merc.

They need to remember- if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

The current A5 and S5 look really good and mean. This facelifts is making this Audi A5 and S5 look really soft, in the pictures it look like a chic cars.

@Lexus: With your ignorant and bias comment about "looks like a chic car" can you tell us how you actually determined WHAT makes up a "chic car". WOW!! Maybe the "IS 250/350 models look like a chic car". Maybe the next time I'm walking down the street and happen to see a person with long hair, "That person must smoke pot since they have long hair". I guess some people (as yourself) can still actually show their stupidity by typecasting or labeling people, cars, etc. If you don't like the car fine, but don't stereotype the car as it makes you appear you have little or no education.

Audi is really stepping out of the box...headlights shaped like the A6 with the light pattern of the Q3. lol Groundbreaking! I does seem to have lost a little something, it definitely looks softer/feminine.

Looks Great!! Just as they said, Small tweaks and updates; similiar in mid cycle updates as the other auto companies go. Nobody does major "refreshes" 2 years into a car.

Two years? I believe the S5 was released stateside in the summer of 2007 as a 2008 model, so its a pretty old model line.

As for the refresh, I'd have to see it in person, but judging solely based on the pictures, I prefer the current model. The current model is one of the few Audis that I genuinely find attractive. It had a great blend of aggressiveness and style, Audi should have just left the old front bumper, round foglights, and simply added these type of LED bars in the same configuration/shape as the old one.

@ HardcoreMarineCorp: That would make you wrong since the car was never released in summer 2007. My step mother works for Audi of America in Auburn Hills, Michigan. I just ordered my new Audi vehicle under her family plan (we get any Audi at invoice, plus any incentives if there are any). The S5 model did not come out in summer 2007. With the new 2012 orders being placed now for build, that would make that vehicle 5 years old already according to your math. It was a 2009 the model year and it was released late in the fall of that year. Audi spent a record amount of money that initial year it came out in advertising in the SuperBowl (I know this because my step mom works in the marketing & advertisement department). She couldn't believe the cost Audi was paying for a 30 second commercial slot during SuperBowl, but Audi Corporation decided to go ahead with it. So as I noted before this is considered a mid cycle refresh. Every auto maker does this to their vehicle somewhere starting the 3 year and beyond. Since we can only get 1 vehicle per family member on the Audi plan, the wife bought a BMW. Most auto makers do refreshes/updates the 3 year in. This is nothing new.

Like the revised styling. Front end is inspired by the A3 sedan concept. Headlights look better than those of new A6 even though they look very similar.

S5 pics in the article look more aggressive. The small 1.6 engine is probably Euro only. Big carbon tax in the UK, hence small engines.
