New Audi TT will bring a diesel version to the USA

Finally! Finally we are getting some of the awesome engine options that the Europeans get. I am curious, which motor will Audi bring over? For a car like the TT, a 3.0 TDI is probably the engine of choice.

It will be interesting to see. Audi actaully could set the ground work for all "Performance Diesels" in the US. Everyone else would be following....Again...

Well the Mercedes E320 CDI was a pretty quick car. There's a guy in my neighbourhood who drives one and he has nothing but praise for the performance of that car.

Say, didn't Mercedes showcase an SLK320 CDI with 3 turbos awhile back?

there are rumors of an R8 TDI also (or at least I am starting one)

I would not put a E320 in the sports car class but it is a good car and the Jetta TDI has been great for years (just have to chip it) but the NEW TDI are in a class of their own

I wasn't implying that the E320 CDI was a sports car, but you can't deny the fact that it is a pretty quick car. Those lucky Europeans also get the BMW 535d, what a car. I'd sell my organs for that baby.

Audi should also bring over their excellent A6 3.0 TDI and BMW should follow suit and offer the 530d and 535d. Bring over more diesels, damn it!

The R8 would be a good model to dump the twin turbo V10 turbo into.

It will probably be the 2.0 liter diesel with probably 170 hp. Maybe a different engine. But with the 2.0 the fuel economy would be awesome like 36 city and 46 highway. But I am not very sure about it, as Audi has not even announced a diesel TT in Europe. BTW, PlanoTX if you are talking about the V10 diesel from the Touareg, that engine is way to heavy, Audi has a lighter V8 diesel making the same hp.

I wouldnt bet on the 2.0 tdi, I have it in an A6, and its just not for a sports car.

I thing 2.7 and 3.0 tdi-s have a good chance of making it, although im not even sure if the TT will have diesels in europe???

Offtopic-- nothing abouth R8 TDI, but there is a prototype of a V10 turbo with 600 horse power... i dont think its needed but.....

The V-6 versions are to heavy for a small car. All that aluminum construction would be wasted with a heavy engine. I think the 170 hp 4 cylinder TDI would be fine, the TT is much lighter than your A6, 170 would be ok in it. BTW how much hp does your A6 TDI has?

I have a 140 hp, but the 3.0 tdi is very light, they used a lot of aluminium on places where they normally put steel. I think that a diesel would be for people looking more at looks of the car rather than performance so it doesnt matter what diesel they put in it really.

Actually im still not sure if there will be a diesel at all!!!

they have a 2.0TDI that would go but I think the point is that we are going to get real SPORTS cars with diesel. Bring it on and call up GIAC so we can all chip the preformance. :)

i love being european :)
and the 535d is a seriously quick car, 0-62 6.4 seconds and 30mpg!
please note i bothered to convert the mpg figure to american gallons.

to bad we don't use the metric system. If i could tell a girl that I was over 160 millimeters long it would sound huge

in england i don't understand why we use mpg, we sell fuel in litres (bloody expensive litres at that) and drive in miles so mpg and l/100km never apply...
