Waterfest 2011: A Mix Of Euro Plates, Tickets, VWs, Audis, Rubbin' And Rust

This past weekend I had the pleasure of enjoying my Sunday in the sun and surrounded by a crowd of German-loving auto enthusiasts. But that doesn't sound too out of the ordinary, does it? Well, then you haven't been to Waterfest.

That's because it has to be one of the most unique auto events in our age. Sure, you can argue that it's like Bimmerfest but I think there is something about the atmosphere that is inherently different. It's more of a do-it-yourself environment that relies on good ol' fashion ingenuity and being grungy.

You don't have to look far to see it either. From the purposefully rusted cars -- protected with a clear coat --, to the cars boasting dozens of stickers that really speak to the owner, these cars have personality. That's not something you can say of many VWs and Audis, which for years have been chastised for being staid autos.

With that said, take a look at some of the unique rides at this year's Waterfest. We've got a FULL gallery and we'll be posting stories in the coming days.

i had a blast at waterfest. i've never been to one of these events before and i am a big fan of vw/audi so to see that many in one place blew my mind. it was a very interesting event and most of the cars were very creative. you don't see this much with the other brands like merc and bmw.

I was there on Saturday, and while I thought it was cool to see all the cars, I have to admit most of the cars there were somewhat tasteless, but you also have to understand that most of them were younger people in their late teens and early 20's. Guess you can't really call German cars rice, but that is the best word I can use. There were also some really nice and tastefully done cars there as well, but that was mostly the Passat, CC, and Audi crowd.

SportyTurbo, I don't believe that he means you are ignorant of facts. I believe he means you are severely lacking knowledge in tact and couth. It's simply not socially acceptable to say one race/country/group/etc is superior to another regardless of how many facts you bring up to prove it. Say you are an adult with an engineering degree and you build the most amazing soap box derby car for $50,000 and then enter it in a competition against a bunch of 12 year olds and their $50 creations. Then afterward you go on sprouting how you are superior to these pathetic kids due to where your ancestors came from. Then when argue with the parents who are trying to reprimand you for insulting their kids and hurting their feelings, you start sprouting some conspiracy theory about people being conditioned to think that it's not right to do what you have done.
