Chrysler suspends workers caught drinking and smoking marijuana during lunch

Chrysler Group LLC has suspended nine workers for allegedly drinking and smoking marijuana before their shifts at a Michigan plant.

Not only are they smokin’ and drinkin’ before heading back to work – but they are doing it in a small parking area across the street from their Local UAW hall. More, one TV reporter also followed one factory worker around as he made several trips to the party store to buy beer before going to work.

They can't fire them. It isn't that easy. The UAW makes it almost impossible to fire a union employee. I was a union member (shop steward), and it became apparent to me that the main reason of the unions was to keep people working who should have been fired a long time ago.

There was always tension between management and the union. If you worked a little harder, people would tell you to slow down and they would call you "Superman". The union mandated that you do the least amount of work possible. It was a horrible work environment. Now I’m in management.

Suspended without pay until an investigation occurs. Perhaps you're ready to junk due process, but I'm not. I suspect the suspensions will last about a week, then fired.

It's total BS that these workers feel they can get away with this crap. They deserve what ever is coming to them. This is not first group of workers who have done this at Chrysler. Maybe Chrysler should toughen up their hiring standards.
