Does Saab Have What It Takes To Survive?

Does Saab Have What It Takes To Survive?
The Saab soap opera has taken more twists and turns than the fate of the heroine in a Stieg Larsson trilogy. Experienced executives have resigned, potential investors have gotten cold feet and backed out, suppliers have withheld parts, and employees have withheld their labor. The question is whether we are at the end of volume three, when Lisbeth Salander declares victory in her war of revenge -- or still buried back in volume one?

And with so much uncertainty over Saab's future and financial situation, why would anyone buy a Saab right now? The new 9-5 looks pretty nice, but why would anyone in their right mind buy a new car from a company that is on the brink of extinction.

Saab is just wasting away. I doubt it will be here next year at this time.

I'd have no hesitation to pick up a slightly used 93 or a previous generation 95 with their huge depreciation built in, but with so little production of the new 95, I'd really worry about parts support long term

Saab's future lies in the Chinese government at this point. If the government approves the 2 mergers with both Chinese companies Saab will survive. If not they are done.

If they could not sell over priced turbo four cylinder cars when the global economy was "good", I doubt they can do it now. I remember when Saab's, especially the Vigen was badass. I shall remember you fondly Saab, Goodbye!

Right now there is simply a product vacumm. The 9-5 is a very big car largely out of keeping with the Saab philosophy. If they can get some crucially smaller, cheaper product out on the market then they would have a chance. Let's hope the Chinese government is feeling charitable. If this deal does not get approved I don't see how Saab can keep going.
