Study Says Baby Boomers Are Actually Buying Their Dream Cars - What About You?
Baby Boomers, which TrueCar defines as people born between 1947 and 1965 and who today are individuals between the ages of 46 and 64, choose vehicles that have more luxurious and flashy appeal, according to a new study by TrueCar.com, the authority on new car pricing and trends. The study reviewed the purchasing behavior of more than 200,000 car buyers from 2009 and 2010.

"Many Baby Boomers are experiencing another phase in their life, the nest is empty and because they have reached a heightened income level giving them both time and financial freedom, they chose vehicles that provide them with a luxurious, safe feel and a youthful, sporty drive," said Jesse Toprak, Vice President of Trends and Analysis at TrueCar.com.

TrueCar.com was able to compile a list of the top brands by Baby Boomers purchased in 2009 and 2010, by percentage of buyers.  Topping the list of brands were Volkswagen, Land Rover and Audi.

The top brands for Baby Boomer buyers in 2009 and 2010 were:

"Baby Boomers buying preferences have shifted as their lifestyles have changed and can now afford the luxury vehicles they had been desiring, but were unable to purchase due to priorities with raising a family," said Kristen Andersson, Automotive Analyst for TrueCar.com.

The aveo? Wow and we already know the Corvette is the midlife crisis car.

I'd have to guess the Aveo is either for the baby boomer's child(ren) or to drag with a RV.

Aveo and Eclipse convertible? If those are the two cars that you aspire to own as a baby boomer, you're ready for the long sweet sleep

Include the M-Class in the un-fun loser list.

How can there not be a single Toyota on that make list, nor a Ford F-150 on the model list? The methodology has got to involve a dartboard to omit these vechiels, and show Suzuki on any top 10.

You know, those 80's Suzuki Samarai commercials *beep* *beep* "HI", really bring the baby boomers back to their lost youth.

To answer the title's question, yes, I have already owned 2 of my dream cars.
1) Jeep Wrangler, 6.5" lift with 37" tires, so many extras, it would take too long to list. I went off roading almost every weekend in college at Badlands off road park in Attica, IN, near Purdue.
2) I am on my 2nd 335i with a sport package. Love the car and can't imagine driving anything else for the price, but of course I want an M3! haha

Go to car cruises and see who owns the classics and new modern muscle cars in the range of $45-60k...Vettes mustangs challengers chargers camaros benz amg and its the grey haired boomer. We all suffered during the stock market crash but most are recovering. The Zl1 camaro is getting on many lists at 50k and 570 hp wow. Mustang Gt at 600 hp double wow. My 95 show vette is tenatively sold and my eye is on the 2011 Grand sport corvette 430 hp. Carlisle vette weekend end of Aug and many of us boomers go and may take one home. Deals can be made.
