Fill in the Blank: 2012 Lexus GS Interior Shots Reveals The Relentless Pursuit Of ____?
The Lexus is starting to reveal more and more of the 2012 Lexus GS ahead of the Pebble Beach debut next month

As these pictures show, the interior looks like a complete departure from the tradition, but it is hard to say if it is an improvement  over it's predecessor. No doubt when all of the cammo tape is removed it will look quite a bit better, but will it be up to the standards or the new A6 and 5-series?

We know that the entry-level model will remain as the GS 350 model. What remains to be seen will be whether it will retain the current model's 3.5L 2GR-FSE V6 engine or whether Toyota will design an all-new engine for the new model.

In either case I wonder if those seats are truly going to be able to properly support a driver in spirited driving.  Any thoughts?

The interior looks like a toned down version of the LFA.

i agree they tried to give it german flair at the same time

And that German flare is ruining it...
Lexus needs to go with what the GS has been and have more swooping lines that mold instead of break 'like the German cars.'

The folks at Top Gear already have test driven the car and gave the new seat design a positive review.

The pursuit of copying a Jeep Grand Cherokee interior. Toyota, US base in Torrance,Ca has a billboard on 405 Freeway of GS concept front end. Toyota is in similar situation as Cadillac was in when started "wedge" theme. They know they need to reach a younger market. Good luck.

Good grief does that interior look cheap

Hopefully the steering wheel works properly unlike the LS

@ Deutschland. I'm going to have to agree with you on this. Interior looks cheap. That big center stack screen looks awful; like some play station in there. What is Lexus trying to accomplish with a center stack area this large. Are they trying to say "hey we'll have Google Maps so now you can see better on our large screen". I want the flowing lines on the interior dash, doors area. I want to feel symmetry between the dash/lines and driver, not an oversized TV screen dash. The interior materials such as the plastic, leather seats, door panels, turn signals, knobs should all exude and ooz a sense of richness or quality feel in this segment of cars (based on pricing on 2011 models). I don't want "gimmicks". The duct tape will be gone in the production model but they better do something with that center stack area. Once blogger said this car 'will be the leader in this segment'. And I have a bridge at a discounted price to sell you too.

You really can't tell a quality interior from a picture. It's like taking a picture of a grand canyon and showing it to your friends. It doesn't do it justice. The same goes for every interior shot. You have to see it in person.

009,
I'm pretty sure the E class and Infiniti M both have equal if not better than the A6 and 5 series.

Everybody pull up your favorite chair, along with the popcorn so we can watch the HUGE screen in the "center stack" area. Are we trying to focus the attention on the center stack area. I dislike when car companies have this 2nd center stack area. IMHO it cheapens the interior of any car. Keep the dash area clean with some flowing lines.

Like how Audi does it with it's pop up screen. That's even 'tackier'.

So true. Everytime I see a Lexus ES350 I say to myself; "BMW wishes that they could build a car like that".

Exactly! And the Lexus RX owns the BMW X5. The RX is the benchmark in both comfort and performance. Not to mention it's aggresive looks.

"Even then, it would retain the horse and buddy ride common in all BMWs. But LexSUCKS, street punks like you prefer the horse and buggy ride quality, so lucky for you, BMW still builds for punks like you."

- So you prefer cars for old folks? LOL!! And besides, you don't even know what you are talking about. The Lexus IS-F was criticized for a harsh ride in relation to the BMW M3. The only way that Lexus was able to make the IS-F compete with the M3's handling, was to give the IS-F a suspension that was much harsher than the M3. BMW was able to provide great handling yet still managed to give the M3 a complaint suspension; The BMW M3 has a plusher ride than the lexus IS-F.

Saying that BMWs offer "horse and buggy ride quality" tells the whole world how far off the reservation you Lexus fans are. Lexus fans are the most uninformed car fans out of all the car manufacturers. Some of the stuff that you guys say is insane. You guys are an embarrassment to American car enthusiasts.

The relentless pursuit of leather. I've always loved the style and shapes in Lexus interiors (the swoops in the RX especially), but was surprised at the lack of quality natural materials. This is a big step up, and I look forward to the next LS interior.

Interior looks better than current car but can see little BMW styling cues in it. Seats and steering look great and very performance oriented hint at a very serious sports sedan. Hope grille is two piece and not a single frame like Audi's.

The line running from the upper passenger side dash to the nav screen really bothers me. So does the marrying (or lack there of) between the front doors and the dash.

I Completely agree. Why Lexus is trying to be blockier is awkward and un-Lexus like. They need to clean up these lines and make them flow 'a lot' more.

Meh, streamlining their designs with the LFA halo car, but it just doesn't work. Even after adding wood/carbon/aluminum/whatever trim, it just doesn't look spetactular. Audi's A6 and BMW's 5 interiors (in my opinion) look far better

This interior doesn't seem to suit the GS. It looks like a redesigned LF-A interior which really doesn't have that "limousine character" written over it. This interior seems more fitting for a sports car and not a sedan. It's also ugly at that. The current GS interior is one of the nicest Lexus interiors ever in terms of design. It may have been hard to replace it in terms of design, but Lexus clearly ruined that chance with this monstrosity of an interior design. Absolutely dreadful.

Then again, Lexus design inside and out has never been consistent. Remove the badges and a Lexus sedan looks like your generic premium mainstream sedan.

Relentless Pursuit of Putty. Great sedans have interiors made by craftsmen that design the tach, seat, and dash. This looks like it was inspired by a 1969 280SEL's dash but molded by putty.
