If You Were Leading The UAW What Strategy Would You Use With The Detroit Three?
Contract talks between Chrysler and the United Automobile Workers began Monday with promises by both sides to reach an agreement that benefits workers, the company and the American taxpayers who bailed out the nation’s third-largest automaker.

The opening of negotiations at Chrysler will be followed this week by similar ceremonies at General Motors and Ford. The current four-year agreements between Detroit’s Big Three and the U.A.W. expire in mid-September.

I would benefit all union members by getting rid of union fees and dissolving the uaw... as to the existing uaw retiree workforce, I'd sell off the company shares and pay off any/all existing contracts with them.

I would advise the UAW to take a twofold approach. One, demand an increase in pay of about 50% over the next three years. Half of the pay increase is to be rendered in gold and the other half in silver. Two, I would help the company cover the additional expenses by urging them to close all factories in the U.S. and shift all production to Venezuela. The savings in payroll and costs (since its all controlled by the government) will be forwarded to the UAW.

On second thought, I guess the UAW has accomplished that with the US taxpayer bailing out their sorry rears.

1) All UAW and factory workers would be drug tested. Anyone who tested positive would be fired immediately.
2) Random drug testing would occur regularly
3) Bonuses for facotory workers and management would be based on "improving quality", meeting goals established to develop quality products, customer service ratings of those new products
4) UAW members forging these ridiculous demands that can strap an automaker.
5) Pay scales in line with their skill levels

If they don't want to agree, find another job. Someone unemployed needing a job will gladly take your job and agree to these requirements. They might even build a better quality product.

To be fare the UAW has long left the policy of huge demands decades ago. they had many give backs in 2009 to help the Big 3 get through bankruptcy and before that in 2007 took on their own retirement but this never makes the news.

I will adopt the strategy of the German manufacturers but I am sure Agent009 will be utterly gutted if that is adopted.

Ditch current structure and negotiate deal identical to top management !
They all survive and prosper or they all go down together...what could be fairer than that.
