2012 Hyundai Genesis R Spec: Who Is The Competition?
Hyundai’s Genesis sedan is only three years old, but it’s already on it’s second refresh, which is business as usual at the Korean automaker. As someone once said, “the Koreans are the only people on the planet who can make the Japanese look like slackers,” and nowhere is this more evident than in the regular updates of their vehicles. Most automakers wait three to five years between model updates, with only minor changes year to year. Hyundai, on the other hand, will incorporate fairly significant changes from year to year, based on the accomplishments of their engineering and manufacturing teams..

The bigger question is how many will they sell? Will they hit double digits? Triple digits?

Hardly, they'll go after Lexus GS buyers as well as E550, 5-series and the Infiniti M lineups.
Whether Hyundai can tune enough performance into the car is another question. MB drivers like straight line performance, while the other two like to turn.

Competitors of R Spec 5.0-liter, 429-horsepower Genesis are:
Mercedes E500, BMW 550i, Audi upcoming S6 V8, Infiniti M56, Lexus GS460(or the upcoming GS V6 performance hybrid). I am sure if not this the next generation R Spec models will compete very well with established players. The regular cheaper variants of Genesis are already doing okay.

Correction: Lexus competitors for R spec Genesis would be the upcoming GS F-Sport or V6 performance hybrid.
"acceleration is grin-inducing, and Hyundai says the R-Spec will get from 0 to 60 in 5.1 second. It actually feels even faster than that, and I would be surprised to see magazines and websites start clocking times in the sub-five-second range"
That is very impressive 0-60 time and makes it the quickest in it's class. Hyundai's improvement and success is amazing. For next generation, Hyundai should aim for M5 and RS6.

Lexus really need to have a Lexus GS-F with a twin turbo V8 that pump out 550+ hp to able to be competitive in this segment.
