Were All Of The Toyota Sudden Acceleration Recalls Just Hogwash?

Were All Of The Toyota Sudden Acceleration Recalls Just Hogwash?
After conducting the most exacting study of a motor vehicle electronic control system ever performed by a government agency, NASA did not find that the ETC electronics are a likely cause of large throttle openings in Toyota vehicles as described in consumer complaints, NASA said in its conclusions.

The NHTSA report concluded that in cases where allegations were made that the brakes were ineffective or the incident began with brake application, “the most likely cause of the acceleration was actually pedal misapplication” – i.e., the driver was pushing on the accelerator, not the brake.

how true

Ha, Ha, Ha, now what...... funny how truth comes out...where are all the auto journalists that had such a ball putting Toyota down and of course were supported by some feds and GM top brains..... when you spit in the air it always ends up in your face..

NASA is even using the same terminology, "pedal misapplication", that was in the official findings of the inquiry into Audi's unintended acceleration fiasco. In less flattering terms: Driver Error + Media Frenzy = "News" For Months + Income For Lawyers

And yet, there are still "believers" out there who believe in a massive Toyota cover-up.

"Were Of Toyota Sudden Acceleration Recalls Just Hogwash?"

Is that English?

8 speeds isn't going to change how crappy Chrysler's are. Sorry to burst your bubble.

It's just another 3 speeds that have to be replaced in 5 years.

Seems nobody reads or tries to understand events.. On a simple level there were 3 key reasons attributed to the sudden acceleration issues:
1) Floor mats that trap pedals
2) Poorly designed pedals (that do not always kick back and again fit the edge of the mats perfectly)
3) Electronic issues

The first two were clearly documented and proven..Toyota recalled the cars, redesigned the pedals and changed the mats. The electronic issue was never conclusively verified..and is the least likely to be true..most tests could not replicate or find any anomalies..So the sudden acceleration is issue was real and resulted in deaths..Its the electronic cause that still has a question mark.

The floor mats and accelerator pedals were "grasping at straws" as to the cause of widespread "unintended acceleration" incidents. Of all reported incidents, very, very few had the suspect mats installed, so that leaves the suspect accelerator pedal as the culprit. Except there were still a lot of "unintended acceleration" incidents reported *after* Toyota changed out the pedals. So this leaves the *only* consistent cause as an electronics issue. Except NASA ruled that out (oh those pesky rocket scientists!). So the only cause left, was the one consistent factor amongst all the "unintended acceleration" incidents, with and without the mats, with and without the suspect pedals, and that's the same cause as with Audi's "unintended acceleration" incidents: Driver error (AKA "pedal misapplication")

Having said all this, it's important to note that people's emotions result based on what they *believe*, and not on facts. So if someone *believes* there is a defect, and they *believe* in a massive Toyota cover-up and government collusion, then they will feel angered, regardless of the lack of facts to prove these believes are actually true. In fact, the facts say otherwise.

huu it sounds as if you don't understand economics, you're following a very fundamentally flawed economic thinking concept known as "too big to fail". If China increased interest on all of America's loans America would be forced to pay them one way or another. If America fails at paying back or keeping up with its loans there will be a rapid devaluation of the American dollar. Thanks to the globalization of most industries, if the usa does go caput there are plenty other places for China to pawn it's cheap offerings off on.

Joe if the US goes caput...the world economy will follow. And nobody will be buying anything. Either way China only owns about 10% of US debt.

The only reason why China keeps the US debt is not because they are scared what will happen to a minority of their sales, but because they make a lot of money off of the interest the US pays every year on those loans.
