SPIED: 2012 Porsche 991 Gets Seen In SILVER & Its Spotted Top DOWN -- How Much Longer Until The Full Monty?
Yes, I am curious: When is Porsche going to give us "The full monty," and just reveal the damn thing already?

The marque's gotten quite brave by showing us every little piece of the vehicle, with exception of the redesigned headlights, taillights and interior. So, in the age of the internet, what are we waiting for?

Until then we'll just keep bombarding you with the latest spy shots, like these, which depict the 991 as close to shedding its camo as possible.

These new images show us what the very popular silver color would look like on your Carrera and also show the Carrera and Turbo convertibles undergoing testing with both of their tops down. With the convertibles, it appears that the rear bonnets have undergone some reworking to accommodate the soft tops.

Aside from that, it appears that the undercarriage, which is visible in some shots, looks a bit different from the 997.

In addition, note the silver coupe has some cleaner and stronger lines incorporated into its design. Take, for example, the rear shot of the silver coupe and observe the strong, clean lines running from the roofline and down into the rear spoiler -- well done, Porsche.

Truth to be said, we've spied the
upcoming Porsche 991 -that's Porsche talk for the next generation of the 911- more times than we can remember these past few months. In fact, just earlier today we brought you some fresh spy shots of the 2013 Porsche 911 Turbo Convertible.

So what's new about these latest scoop pictures? Well, we get a clearer look at both the regular coupe and convertible models of the 911 series without any of that annoying body camouflage...

Interesting comparing the new one to the current 997. Porsche says that the new one is 1/2 inch lower then the 997. But it appears more then this because of the way Porsche seems to do it. What I mean is Porsche seem to have kept the same height of the glass all the way around. It appears as if the rest of the body sits lower then the 997. The front hood and fenders seem to sit lower to the ground. The headlights seem lower in relation to the wheel wells. From some angles I see a little Porsche 904 in the face of the new one. The headlights are going to be more oval. The body just seems more squat and muscular while the current 997 seems more upright and formal. It is completely recognizable as nothing other then a 911. However besides making it longer the whole body seems closer to the ground. Dare I say it looks a bit more exotic then the 997.

I'm not happy that the standard car is lower, because this makes it more difficult to be a daily commuter when suddenly clearance is an issue due to steep driveways in urban areas. It's one thing if the GT3 is low, but let's be realistic about the minimum clearance necessary to make this a practical everyday driver.

It looks good (since not much change and it looks good already). I think this will be a real modernization of the 911. I just hope it doesn't go too far to the GT side. 7 speed manual should make highway cruising more pleasant (car is loud now with 4,000 rpms @ 85 mph with the 6 speed). Little things like an electronic parking brake and auto-on headlights will make things easier for use as a daily driver. I'm no expert but I think there won't be a lot of typical 1st year teething problems since I believe the engines are not clean sheet designs and the interior, although redesigned, uses tech from the Panamera and Cayenne.

I think the new car will do fine. The question is whether it's enough of a step forward as a platform for racing. The flying lizards are having a hard time in ALMS. The next 911 RSR needs some more chops.

quizz-I think the car still has decent ground clearance. It's just a lower slung car then the 997.My guess is that visability and headroom
are probably the same but you sit slightly lower in this car then a 997.
Albocar-I think the camoflouge over the tail lights are what's giving it the odd look. I'm not sure why Porsche feels they have to disguise the headlights and tail lights at this point as we are about a month away from Frankfort. As for the cars handling because the rear axle has been moved further rearward the weight distribution should be pretty close to a typical mid engined car. In effect then the engine may be sitting either on top of or slightly forward of the rear axle as opposed to behind the rear axle in the 997 and all the previous 911's. That is a pretty radical change and should go a long way to adding more stability and predictability to the 911 handling.
