Lexus Falls To Fourth Place In US Luxury Car Market Sales
The battle of giants for the lead in the U.S. luxury market got even more interesting in July, as No. 1 BMW crept a little further into the lead over No. 2 Mercedes-Benz during the month; Lexus remained hamstrung by supplies; and other players were jockeying for the No. 3 spot. BMW brand sold about 135,000 vehicles year to date through July, and last month upped its edge over the Mercedes brand, which sold about 130,000 during the first seven months. Lexus brand sales were off by 19 percent in July and are off by 19 percent for the seven months, even though availability has begun to return to form. Audi and even Lincoln staged their own surges during the month as the entire segment began easing into the traditional summer sell-down.

That's a remarkably even market. The largest player only has a 17% market share.

The real question might be if Buick and Cadillac really need to be there at all.

Why draw the line at Buick/Cadillac as being Luxury? Even economy cars these days are more sophisticated then average luxury cars 10 years ago. It's all relative isn't it? All of these manufacturers still use "cheap" plastic excessively throughout their interiors (i.e. buttons, switches, random less visible panels, as a structural material to mount higher end materials such as leather over, etc etc etc)

If you wanted to draw a line, wouldn't you draw it closer to makes like Bentley and Rolls Royce that still use things like wood for structural components in their vehicles?

If you count Buick, you might as well count Chrysler too.

The new line up at Buick is definitely state of the art. While Japanese manufactures (except Infinity Cars only) are churning appliance looking cars Buick is catching up.Their cars are just beautiful. If you do not agree just stop by and take a look at the lacrosse and Regal. In fact the Koreans are making way nicer cars and for less money.Im thinking of getting a Lacrosse CXS.

Yes but my CTS has over 80k and I cannot wait to buy a new car.Better do it before the boss (my wife) changes her mind.I don't know when it will come out besides I stopped at Pearson Buick/GMC yesterday and was very impressed by the Lacrosse CXS which was the top of the line touring edition.Price was just around 35k after discounts.I will keep my Escalade ESV Platinum edition for now.

Agentmonneypenny is not informed at all.The 3.6 280hp has been around in these for 2 years now.You should do more reserch on cars before comenting. The tranny is a 6 speed.

The Lucerne Super starts Over 43k and has a Northstar V8.The base model is a V6 with 227Hp and 4 speeds so what.It does what its supposed to do.It does not mean the more the gears the better the car.I do not agree with that too much. Many cars start "hunting gears" when there are too many making for an annoying ride.
