Finally Everyone Is Starting To Catch On To What We've Been Saying For HOW Long, Now?
Here at AutoSpies we don't pull punches and we tell it like it is. Some automakers may not like that but sorry. Well, we're not really sorry. Step up your game and we won't have to reveal any dirty little secrets.

With that said, we've been shining a bright spotlight on Honda the past couple of years and its steady decline of automotive mediocrity. There's no doubt that Honda produces some fantastic products, however, if we were charting the brand's trajectory, it would be heading downwards starting more than 24 months ago.

Now it's easy to say that the brand's designs have been...awkward, to say the least. But even publications that have been loyal lovers are starting to realize something's up. From the brand's options -- or lack thereof --, to fit and finish that's not up to par, to a less engaging driving experience, Consumer Reports is giving them a proper shellacking.

Big-time cars like the CR-Z and the Civic, which probably has more accolades than Honda knows to do with, didn't even make CR's coveted "recommended" list.

Hopefully the next-gen CR-V is a ray of hope. I have to admit, I did like the images of the working concept. Now, can the big "H" execute? We shall see...

Most of these redesigns have better fuel economy than the model they replaced. They also do well in recent, more-stringent crash tests. But there are some common shortcomings:

  • Stopping distances are often long.
  • Fit and finish is declining. More cheap-looking materials are appearing. (Toyota has been prone to this, too.)
  • We’ve been complaining about Honda road noise for years. While it’s improved in some of their recent products (Accord Crosstour, Odyssey), it’s still an annoyance in many of their other cars.
  • A long-time hallmark of Honda was that the cars were fun to drive. Even mainstream models had great steering feel and body control—both essential ingredients for driving involvement. That entertainment quality has been disappearing with each redesign. The Insight has sloppy on-limit handling with too much oversteer, despite its stability control.
  • Honda is stingy with standard equipment and their options structure (or lack thereof) can make it hard to get what you want. Since Honda doesn’t offer options, you usually wind up paying for other features you might not want. For example, want Bluetooth or an ambient temperature display in a Civic? Hope you don’t mind paying for a sunroof in the EX model. (Honda might be listening: They added equipment like a backup camera to lower levels of the Odyssey and Crosstour for 2012.)

In a few short years those that got on the Hyundai bandwagon will realize the krap car they now own.

The current CRV is still a nice car with a nice interior and good steering feel. I also like it's size.Fortunately it did not grow too big like the Rav 4 did. I am hoping that Honda does not make it's replacement too big or cheapen the materials. Honda should be taking notes big time.

In my book Toyota is little different. They also have bland products. Just look at the new Camry. It looks nothing more then a bloated Corolla.

Lol. I look at it this way. Hondas were never really attractive cars to begin with. It just took looking at Hyundais and Kias that made people really notice how boring a Honda really is (was).

In a way I'd have to agree...I'm on my third new Honda product now (1993 accord EXR, 2006 civic LX, 2009 civic EXL, and I doubt my next vehicle will be a Honda for the following reasons: the '93 was the best overall as later generations of Accord have become too big, too bloated, no fun to drive like my '93 was and styling is the pits. The civic for '03 was the next best thing to my '93 accord as far as size but not as good in handling, power or quiet (yes road noise in these civics could use improvement). But my '09 EXL model featured among all it's available options....road noise, rattles in front windows when open and poor fitting two-piece passenger door post panels (keep popping out) along with creaking in passenger side door panel for some reason. The new 2012 Honda Civic has taken a step backwards in looks as far as I'm concerned, looks more like a Toyota Corolla then ever with the added creases and flanges in side panels that used to be so clean and smooth looking. Why the new Elantra is far better looking now (and probably just as good a car). Overall Honda's products need some serious styling makeover and could take a cue from Hyundai's book of style! Overall I don't think there what they used to be so next time round I'll be looking elsewhere.

Also forgot to mention my '09 EXL (canadian model) NOT available with GPS navigation system (as in the U.S.) and the 'mp3' system ONLY works with an iPod!! When I asked the sales guy why the Civic for 2009 was not available with GPS as in the U.S. he couldn't tell me why? Needless to say I have not rushed out to buy an iPod just to play in my Civic.

And the significance of that is?

I used to only buy Kia, then I found out the Koreans make it nearly impossible for US automakers like Ford to sell in their country. After buying a new Kia every year since 2001 and anxiously awaiting the new 2012 Rio5 I decided to stop buying their cars until they create an evenhanded trade agreement with the US.

Two weeks ago I bought my first ever American car, a 2011 Ford Fieta SES.

I am in heaven! I didnt realize how cheap the Kia plastic interiors I had been buying were until I felt the Fiestas dashboard!

If you think Honda is uing some cheap plastics you should see how messed up the 2010 Soul I traded in was. Might look nice but it was scratched up cheap plastic. You get what you pay for regardless if its made in Japan, Korea or even here!

I think all companies are cutting corners especially on imports due to the fact that they have to make up for the weak dollar!

I did not consider Honda or Toyota because IMO they make very boring looking cars!
