SPIED: The Next-Gen BMW M3 Steps Out For The FIRST Time
For quite some time we've seen the upcoming BMW 3-Series undergoing testing around BMW's factory, at the 'Ring and even in the U.S., but one thing's been missing.

The BMW M3.

Well, that is until now. As you can see, the M3 has been spotted for the very first time and it's in sedan trim. That's interesting because I could have swore there were reports that the M3 would be going back to just a coupe since sedan sales weren't exactly off the charts.

Rumors are currently speculating about the motor, but they all have something in common: It is likely to be a forced induction six cylinder motor.

These are the first spyshots of the brand new 2014 BMW M3, codenamed F3x, according to Dutch magazine Autowereld.com. The new BMW M3 will be available only in Coupe and Convertible models, but the test mule we see here looks like a sedan with four doors. So what’s the deal here?

BMW M Gmbh is getting back to basics with their next BMW M3. It is reportedly going to get an all-new six-cylinder engine boosted by three turbos. Two of them are conventional units connected to exhausts, and the other is powered by electricity. The total output is expected to be around 450hp...

Am I the only one that thinks 3 turbos sounds like overkill especially for 450 hp, and a longterm reliability disaster? As much as I love BMW cars, if GM can make a 7.0 liter 500hp 500lb torque V8 get close to what alot of V6 luxury cars are getting their no excuse why any of these high performance luxury cars cant get decent gas mileage without a rediculous amount of complexity........

That's because they can't seem to find a way to be efficient without the use of turbos. If you ask me, that's a cheap shortcut. Drop a couple of cylinders and slap on a turbo to keep the HP up to par to save gas.

The third turbo is for low rpm grunt. This setup is also cheaper to manufacture than the twin-charge setup VW was testing or other systems. My bet is that three turbos weigh less than two turbos and a supercharger.

I think the electric turbo is more a centri supercharger driven by electric belt or electromagnetism like a typical electric motor rather than a turbo...
