Peep Show! 2012 Lexus GS Uncovered In China Ahead Of Pebble Beach Debut
Big cars are big business in China ask Audi about their A6 sales in China and you wont get an answer, just a big grin. Big car sales equal big profits, and this is the market that the GS is aiming for.
The GS will be squaring up against Germany’s finest in the Chinese market, the A6, 5-Series and E-Class should be afraid of the GS when it hits the market later this year, the GS has been given a major redesign for the latest generation which corporates some styling from the LF sports car. This particular spy shot shows an AWD model, but the regular GS will come in RWD mode also to cater for those just require power to the rear wheels.

Nothing for even me to complain about. They should have kept the front from the concept (or at least a version of that design). The grill/headlight design on this car needs some work IMO. Rest of the car looks good. I like how the profile looks stubby and athletic.

I had a feeling they'll ruin it. GS's signature has been the double front lights and they killed them with these ugly 200CT lights.
I can tell you now this GS will be in the same position the previous generation is. Although I love their quality, reliability and interior design, but I was hoping for this GS to change things, but from it's looks it doesn't look like it.

The dull white paint is hiding some design and curves. Will wait for more better pictures to have any opinion. So far very happy that Lexus isn't using the Concept's grille.

Opinions
1 - side view looks like a 7 Series cross with an old Hyundai Sonata. Rear looks like a new Sonata. Get some original styling for once.
2 - the curved, elegant exterior styling on the current GS seems to be unfortunately gone. Instead of the IS being an IS and the GS being a GS, the new GS seems to be a large IS.
3 - interior does look impressive though and points to improved quality and better ergonomics.
Overall, as an MB/BMW owner, I've never been too tempted to go for Lexus, as I found the rival German cars were simply just that extra bit nicer and more luxurious. The only Lexuses I seriously considered was the current GS 460 and LS 460. Now I don't want either.

Doesn't inspire much more than a yawn, nothing ground-breaking to set it apart from the leaders in the segment. Tail-lights look as if they belong a on much cheaper car and what I see in the photos those tail-lights look similar to those on a current Mitsubishi Galant.

SMDH...Lexus dropped the ball on this one. I agree - it screams Sonata - which is fine for a Sonata or other $25K cars. The exhaust look like an afterthought. I seriously doubt this will make any more of a dent in the sales of the competition than the last GS...which didn't look that bad.

Who the hell is designing cars for Lexus, how do these people even have a job, the old GS is a beautiful car and they ruined it with a new GS. Now they made the new GS look even worse than the current GS, what the hell are they smoking over there at lexus wow.

I think they mess up this new Lexus GS up big time. From the front it look like a IS250/350, Lexus LS rear, and BMW 5-Series side profile. I like the current Lexus GS300/430/460 better. I guess I will get another Infiniti for my next new car or I might even get a German cars.

The concept looked good.
This does not.
The side profile retains some current Lexus GS styling cues, which is ok. My problem lies with the front of the car: a modified CT200h face doesn't look good on the GS body because the CT200h looks like a TOYOTA. Lexus needs to distance their sedans from the generic Toyota styling (and especially their SUVs). The rear has a sort of boxy Hyundai Sonata / last-generation Honda Accord look to it - bland.
Overall, the concept looked much better. Maybe this car will look better with nicer wheels and in person, but for now it doesn't look that good in the photos.

Wow!!!! I'm very very disappointed in what I'm seeing. Just another boring luxrious Lexus. But after the concept? Seriously? The face is less aggressive from the concept. The concept was so nice. Was that the best they could do? The current GS looked better. I feel so stupid thinking and defending this when people complained about it. I have nothng to back me up.

Hey Joe-Limon you taking notes? I'm not the only one who thinks Lexus is copying. You guys took to words right out my mouth. BMW, MB,Sonata. The current GS had an orginal side profile. This GS's greenhouse copied the Genesis's side (even though the Genesis side copied bmw because of the C pillars found on the legacy and Accord as well). Oh wait BMW was said about what this GS looks like now. I'm disappointed in Lexus.

"It really bothers you that Lexus is able to capture the loaded retirement group. Lexus isn't interested in selling to 16 year old girls like BMW."
So you saying when 16 year olds graduate from college and earn $80,000 a year, they have to settle down for boring cars?

Its nice but this is par for the course for Lexus. I don't see anything new or exciting about it, in fact it copies lots of design cues already in place as mentioned by other posters. I neither hate it nor love it. It wouldn't be a top 3 choice for my own taste.

"Koreans have to hire foreigners to design their cars."
Oh maybe Toyota should do the same thing. Look at the 2011 Optima compared to the 2012 Camry. Also Lexus just got rid of what made the GS unique in design. The face had always had four seperate headlights. Side profiles were always different. But......not anymore. Just a typical RWD luxury car. Keep your fingers crossed that they don't mess up the IS and make it from orginal to copying. At least BMW still makes sleek designs for 16 year olds and rich people.

The back of this GS look like a stretched version of the currents IS..
So I stand by my point that the Hyundai Sonata is really copying the lexus IS,,..
The flat tuby rear exhausts on the Sonata got is copied from the Lexus LS series, so lexus GS is really apeing it's big brother..

KIA Sportage looks like the CR-V? So you mean to tell me that the 2007 Kia Kue concept looks like the CR-V. Let me guss the Sportage's back lights looks like a Volvoo. As for them um Forte Koupe side profile. It came form the 2007 KIA KND-4 conncept side profile. Lets see.
Of course I should name some cuvs that copied the face of the 2005 Kia Mesa conept. Like the Suzuki XL-7 and 2012 Ford Explorer.
Oh wait. You got lexus RX and Kia Sorento? Will lets see the 1st genration Sorento and RX does have slanted C pillars. As well as the 1st generation Acura MDX, Chevy Blazer, Honda PassPort 2005 Honda CR-V, Ford Escape and Tribute, Iszuzu Rodeo, 2nd generation Chevy Equonix. Mercedes M, Toyota 4 Runner. . Lets bring them alllll to the Kitchen table.
SUVs with slanted C Pillars pushed to the rear. 2nd generation RX, 2nd generation mDX, Ford Edge, Toyota Venza, Mercedes R, 1st gneration Infinti FX, Suzuki XL-7,
Now lets see the CR-V's back lights are off Volvoo, and Saab.
You aint' got to prove to me Kia ain't orginal. After all, the Optima's side grille is also on the Ford 500, Land Rover Range Rover, Mini cooper, Infinti big SUV (whatever it's called.
Cars with Kinks in the rear doors. Lexus IS, Pontaic Grand Prix, Charger, Avenger, that new Porche sedan and Optima. Yawn. Tell me something I don't already know? so there I just proved Lexus's side profile copied the Grand prix. Now what?
Grand Prix and Ford 500 hint tailights.
2010 Ford Taurus and 1999 Nissan Altima hint face.
lets see let's see. Oh yeah. Mazda 6 and Acura ZDX hint side profiles.
Buick Regal and Volvoo S60 hint greenhouse.
Acura ZDX and Chevy Volt hint backends.
I'm not done. Now that we brought up the CR-V. 2005 CR-V and 2005 Lexus GX hint headlights.
Scion XB and Honda Pilot hint backends.
Let's brign them alllll to the Kitchen table huu76back. 2012 GS and Hyundai Genesis hint greenhouse. And actually the Genesis side copied the BMW 3 series not the IS. Do you see a Kink in the rear door like the Charger, Grand Prix or Optima?
Honda ACcord and Legacy hint sides.
Pontaic G8 and 2005 Altima hint greenhouse.
So what's your point huu76back. I already know the Koreans ain't orginal. But you still think the tundra Lancer EVO, Sonic and VW Iroc concept's face look nothign alike. So with you bringing the Forte and civic's headlights don't move me. Why? Because I'm jtz I can get cars from a to Z. Come on I can bring up 75 more cars you never thought in your life copied.

1st generation Honda Pilot, 2004 Lexus LS, Infinti Q sedan, Ford 500, Caddy deville, 2004 Suzuki Verna midsize sedan but only the 2006.5 Optima is the copy. Ignorign everyone else's. Oh yeah add the 2005 Lexus GX into that list too.
