HOT! First Official Photos Leak Of The 2013 Porsche 911! STUD Or DUD?
The Porsche 911/991 is ready to rock and roll and we have the first official images to prove it! Porsche went all out on this model, as they have done for all of the previous generations. It is a completely new vehicle, even though it is easily recognizable as a 911 model. Compared to the car it replaces, the next generation 911 is said to be about 56mm longer, leaving it with a grand total of 4.49 meters. The wheelbase will also grow about 10mm, but the car itself will be about 11 mm shorter.

Take a look at the photos and tell us if it's a STUD or a DUD?

What's with the new badging? "Porsche 911 Carrera S" -- really? They're giving BMW (of X5 xDrive30i fame) a run for their money...

As far as looks go, though, it's fantastic. I would just go with the "badge delete" option.

Rumours have it that the next generation will have a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Hybrid Cabriolet, followed a year later by the Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS Hybrid Cabriolet

There is more change in this model then there was from 996 to 997.As I stated before the change appears primarily in the front and rear of the car. The basic sillouette does not appear to have changed other then different cut lines. The headlamps are clearly different as is the front parking lights and grill. I think it is an improvement over the 997. The rear looks even more changed with the different tailamps and mild cam tail effect. As for the interior it simply looks more upmarket. It would appear to be a Panamera dash modified to fit a 911. Interesting that the tach is a different color.(perhaps a homage to Ferrari)Overall the interior looks expensive. The center console does mimic the Carrera GT a bit as well.Overall I think it is an improvement over the look of the 997. Perhaps on the next go around Porsche will be brave enough to change the sillouette a bit.

oh will you look at that! I can finally notice a difference, the tail lights are slimmer right? Still it's hardly what I would call "a completely new vehicle"

Every 911 gets better and better. I'll take a silver 4S. They made a timeless classic look even hotter.

If you're a true "petrosexual" and car nerd, as I am... you'd know that this car is truly BRAND NEW, inside and out, almost zero carryover minus the PDK itself. Yes, the design has not changed, but that is a testament to the originality and CONTINUED PROGRESS of the 911 form. Why mess with something that is considered timeless? (IE Do you also complain when Rolex incrementally updates the Daytona and Submariner models? Or that A. Lange & Söhne changes stuff... rarely, if ever?)

The 991 is a great step for Porsche, unquestionably. Rear lighting concept is brilliant (great cues from 918 Spyder) and interior is distinctly "upmarket" which is where they wanted to move it. I get it. However, even as a Porsche enthusiast of epic proportion (extended family owns 10+ Porsches from the 70s onwards), I admit these leaked pics lead me to question one thing -- Where are the LED adaptive headlights to match? This is an absolute MUST for me on "new" cars, and one feature I will not do without on a new vehicle. I will be very curious to see the full press kit on this car, and what features it includes.

With Porsche's integration into the VW AG portfolio nearing completion, one would expect the level of technology sharing to be increased between all VW models, as the platform sharing has already begun, as a major backbone to VW AG's strategy for global domination. (NOTE: There has been a large uptick in the # of executives being repositioned throughout the VW brands over the summer holidays).

(personal opinion injected here!)
Unlike many others, I am 100% UNCONCERNED about the new full electric steering system that has been implemented in the 991. I just drove a MY2012 Audi A6 3.0T fully loaded (MSRP ~$71K) and was very surprised by the steering and road feel communicated, as it was light, nimble, and exceedingly confident. (If you have not driven one, rush to Audi and do so ASAP, thank me later.) In all the interviews, the 911 team leader (whose name escapes me) was consistently quoted as saying that the steering is everything in the 911, and that the new system is not a compromise, only more efficient. I believe it.

Drove a Panamera 4 last week, and was not impressed. Very precise steering, comfy seats, surprising visibility, but..... the car (1) begs the driver for MORE POWER, (2) needs an ergonomics overhaul (LESS IS MORE re: buttons), and (3) the interior feels dated. I fumbled while driving to find the "SPORT" button, and had to T-REX claw my right arm to activate it.

Rumor -- All new 991s will begin as MY2013, as MY2012 997s are in USA showrooms now. This will push deliveries of Carrera 2/2S in USA to the end of Q1 into Q2 2012, enabling Porsche to legally sell the 991 as a MY2013. I'd surmise that pushes the 4/4S into Q1/Q2 2012 launch, with deliveries beginning at/before Q4 2012. *fingers crossed for a quick Targa launch*

What to watch? -- 918 Spyder is going to sh*t on everything in its' path. 3L/100KM? Yes please.

Conclusion --

You need to drive the Panamera 4S...it;s kind of a beast. They hybrid is nice and quick enough but the 4S pulls hard and is capable of low 4 sec 0-60 times. Any more power is pretty much not usuable.

STUD. The slim tail lights make the side profile look even sleeker and lower than it is. Wasn't expecting these many styling changes compared to 997 but new 991 is looking good.

A STUD BUT ... sorry hate to rain on everyone's parade but as an owner of a Targa4s I have some issues with this new ride:

1) Ok they want to push it upmarket - great but looks more like a GT now.
2) No hand brake for a Porsche? Especially in manual tranny?
3) If I want a Cayenne or Panamera interior I order one - where is the "911" feel about this car. Ok share parts but seriously?!
4) The RIMs are ugly on this ride - just plain nasty.
5) The badge is a joke - I am guessing that is for marketing launch.

Need to see it in person to finally judge!

how can the car be 56mm longer and 11mm shorter at the same time? Or is that 11mm shorter referring to the height? It's hard to tell since the reference comes in a sentence stating the wheelbase is longer. And everything else is talking about length.

STUD, the rear is definitely an improvement and very attractive. Front is nothing new, but the rear quarter is a great evolution. I'm hoping the engine upgrade is worthy.

A VW beetle only dreams of having a 911. While it started with similar roots, it's not the 911's fault. It's just how things started out. No one even bothers to compare the latest Lexus GX to the Toyota Prado in Asia and various parts of the world. . . at least the VW and 911 are two completely different cars, one economy and one luxury-sport. The Prado's build quality is basically the same as the GX, so who's fooling who?

Not really a Porsche guy, but I respect greatness when I see it. And this has got to be the best looking 911 thus far. Porsche did an awesome job.

Part of an interior that appeals to me is not just nicer materials but also how the dashboard is visually interesting interesting. The architecture of a dashboard comes into play. When you look at the dash of a Ferrari 458 or an Aston Martin Vantage what makes those dashboards look great are not just the materials used. Rather its how they are designed. They are both exotic looking. This new 911 dash is clearly more up market. However it looks like Porsche simply took the Panamera dash and squished it about to fit the size of the 911.This dash looks great in a luxury sedan. However it does not look right in a sportscar. From an architectualy point of view it's simply not special enough. The dashboard says luxury sedan not sportscar. The square air vents certainly don't help. Frankly I prefer the dash of the last aircooled Porsche 993 to this. The qauges even look dumbed down in the photo. In the old 911's the gauges really dominated the dash. The had this raw aircraft look to them as if their job was to get you the basic information about what the car was doing.Ferrari and Aston have mamaged to retain this feeling even though they have luxury material surfaces in their interiors. In this Porsche it is clear that everything you touch is of a nicer quality but frankly it looks rather ordinary, even for a Porsche.Even Porsches 928 had a nicer dash then this.

To a Porsche person, the improvements and evolution is remarkable. To the Corvette owner, they don't get it. They are clueless.

The only problem with Porsche now is that with so many sold, the uniqueness is gone and depreciation is painful since purchase price is elevated.
