Audi Cuts A6 Price as Lure for U.S. Luxury Drivers
Volkswagen AG (VOW)’s Audi, the luxury brand trying to double its U.S. sales, has lowered the sticker price of its redesigned A6 midsize sedan to grab more market share.

The new A6, now in its first full month of sales, starts at $41,700, the company said on its website, down from $45,200 for the previous model. Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (BMW)’s 5-Series line, which outsells the A6 almost fivefold in the U.S., starts at $45,050, and Daimler AG (DAI)’s Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedans start at $49,400 and outsell the Audi model almost 6-to-1.

Yes but.....$41,700 is the base price for the 2.0T model. The 3.0T model starts at $49,900.

more than that Edmunds tested one and it was over $70,000 for a 3.0T.......Not to mention they are quick to point the differences in prices of the benz YET the Benz only has 1 V6 which means the E350 competes with the 3.0T not the 2.0T so its not cheaper thats just BS marketing. Thats like comparing the A7 to the CLS and saying its cheaper yet the CLS would compete with the S7 because of its turbo V8 not the base A7....

There is an added bonus to this method. They will sell cars with fewer options due to the high option price, thus making their vehicles more "reliable" I'm not sure you can call a stripped down Audi a luxury car though...

less options makes it more reliable, where did you get that nonsense from. It will still be a terrible car because its engine, transmission, and electronics in general arent reliable. Lol if my less options on an unreliable car it will be reliable pure nonsense.

Eldard is right, it's a pretty simple concept. If each component of a car has a small % chance of failing, buying the equivalent car with fewer things to go wrong will undoubtedly mean a higher reliability.

Crikey thats nearly a 10K difference between engine variants, its going to be hard to get some people into the 3.0.

This is a bit missleading as the engine being the most expensive part of the car is swapped out for a VW 2.0T engine, yes, it should be several thousand cheaper. The other competive models don't have a similar engine available in the U.S., so Audi should be comparing their models against the 2.0T. They should compare the A6 comparatively against the competitors similar engines and see where the stickers end up. Now, if they want to just show that someone can get into this model for less money than before because of the less expensive engine, then that's another story. But they shouldn't compare to a M-B E350 for example as they are apples and oranges in engines.
