Automobile Magazine SLAYS Audi A6 in long term review!
I guess I could go into a lot of details about the long term review of the Audi A6 sedan but I think this quote sums it up...

"But it had far too many quality problems, and its chief competitors, the BMW 5-series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, are a step up in both performance and prestige.

Until the A6 becomes a true driver's car, it is destined to remain a nice car for people who want to buy into the sport sedan club without actually knowing what a sport sedan can be."

WOW!

That's HARSH!

Automobile magazine, I can say that they are not on the top of car magazine food chain.

Here is a long term review for an Acura with some problems.

They were referencing the fact that they had to take their A6 back to the dealer for EIGHT unscheduled visits...all of the visits were due to electronic failures/glitches. If it's Acura or Audi or whatever make....in this day and age it's NOT ACCEPTABLE. The Chairman of Audi can preach all he wants about taking Audi to the number one premium car sales spot with "quality" but the real world paints a completely different experience about the reality of owning an Audi.

omg, the mercedes benz e-class sucks and LOOKS HORRIBLE.
The Audi is the ONLY car where you can AWD (Quattro) and a V8. Anyway, the AUDI interior is LEAGUES ahead of BOTH the BMW and the Merc.

Automobile does NOT know what they are talking about. Prestige-wise, the Merc is for olg people (except the AMG, lol!), the Beemer is for posers, while the Audi is for people who know a fine car when they see it.

Maybe the S6 could be a little more agressive, but the EClass and the 5Series are behind in terms of design.

They may have more power, but in some ways they lack the SOPHISTICATION.

If they are talking about prestige, I would rate Car and Driver, Road&Track, Motor Trend and Autoweek above Automobile magazine on prestige.

Audi4ever...I respect your enthusiasm for the brand but you are very clearly jaded and biased. First you slam a respected auto magazine for testing/driving the A6 for one year and reporting the fact that they had to take the car back to to the dealer for EIGHT unscheduled visits due to electronic glitches/failures. They are simply reporting the facts. You being a "service advisor" for Audi is especially troubling because now your reaction is to blame the CUSTOMER for the car's malfunctions/defects. If I was the GM of the Audi dealership that you supposedly work at, you would be fired in a heartbeat.

I am sorry to hear the news, but again, this story really conforms to my experience of having cars from “VW Families” about four years ago. In less just than two years, I had owned, traded in, and bought a 01’ Passat Wagon, ‘01 A6 Sedan, 02’ A6 Station Wagon, and finally ’02 A6 Avant-garde. All of them have one problem in common, electric/electronic berserk. Although all of them were still under warranty, but at least one weekend in every single month, my car had to be brought to the dealer repair shop. Now who wants to repeat all of those in our hectic busy schedule? Don’t get me wrong, I loved my Audi, well almost everything about it (except the electronic problems and the road noise that storming in to the cabin).
Still reminiscing the days I howled that engine, and blazing to icy road during the 03 April blizzard in DC area… I hope they pay a close attention of this matter… (fingers crossed)

As they say it all comes out in the wash. The Audi A6's faults and Audi4ever's apparent lack of a brain, was that 1 option you had deleted to save weight?

Audi4ever...you are speaking out of both sides of your mouth once again. So now you are blaming consumers for demanding more electronics...so in effect you are saying that it's not Audi's responsibility for making sure that they work properly? There you go again, blaming the consumer. By the way, among the numerous electronic glitches in the A6 that Automobile had, among them was a remote key that wouldn't work several times and power windows, etc. This stuff is very elementary technology wise....and Audi still had so many problems. What's really sad is you have not even read the article and then your pretended to by saying some b.s. that the factory "over lubricated the switches".....LMFAO.

I have two Audi A6's one for more than a year now and I didnt have 1 problem, and all my friends who have it don have problems.

I fell in love with the car when I had to test drove it.... now!! what happens a lot in these reviews is that test drivers think they are the best so why turn on automatic when u can have manual and get .0001 of a sec faster acceleration
Another thing is that the car is not theirs so the y treat it as garbage, unlike their cars, meaning flooring it, using breaks abnormally, slamming buttons....

It could just be the car though... the ones for american market arent exactly the same as the ones for european, and another thing is bad luck in short. For example: my friends Saab was breaking down, so he decided to get a Lexus Is, which failed him completely on the test drive, so he decided not to give a damn and bought an Alfa... that does not mean that Lexus was a bad car, because it was a diesel, driven on short distances by different people that didnt really give a damn for it

This is also my first encounteer with Automobile magazine, and I have to say their reviews su*k bad!!!

Wow ... Had this article been about the BMW product most of the responses would have been about how people have paid too much for them and how they should have bought an Audi. Audi has a problem with their A6, this is not uncommon knowledge. Audi4ever, being in the service part of Audi you should know that going in. My brother is one of the leading tech's for Audi in Illinois and he would be the first to tell you that the Audi A6 has had a numerous amount of annoyances... Just like BMW had with the 7-series in 2002 & 2003 ... Everyone know that the A6 doesnt stack up very well against the BMW nor the Mercedes ... It is not as fast, doesnt handle as well. Granted they have a very nice interior and probably one of the best, but that doesnt make a car great. Especially, when they are trying to say that they are a true sports sedan. Hell, the 550 is quicker and less expensive than the S6 ... By the way, How much is the maintenance on the Audi, since they stopped offering a full service program?

guys and gals... as the competition between the manufacturers increases so does the level of technology and the electronic issues that may result. There is so much technology that is being introduced into cars for the first time, that electrical issues are bound to occur. All one can do is try and make the best of it. Toyota is recalling about everyone of their cars ( including Lexus ) ... Audi has had some shakey electronics in the last year or so ... Mercedes has had some problems with their E-class and Ml's over the last few years ... BMW had some issues with 7-series a few years ago which were problematic ... It happens and I dont see it slowing down either ...Everyone slammed BMW and the I-drive concept when it debuted in 2002, and since then Audi has come out with the MMI, Infiniti has a version of it, Acura & now Mercedes with the Command System. Are any of the systems perfect? no. Do they all have certain kinks in them that people dont like? yes. Are problems bound to occur? yes .... It is like anything else that is new and innovating, problems are bound to occur. What matters is how the manufacturer and dealers do to stand behind their products...

audi4ever .... that is then the customers issue with the dealer. I have never heard of BMW paying for anyone to stay in their cars. This I know for a fact. I am guessing it is the dealer who is saying that. My friends who had problems with the 2002 and 2003 7-series where offered a 2004 or a 2005 for a slight adjustment and the dealers stood by their products. To this day, they havent had any problems on their 745's or 750Li's. Audi is having problems with the A6 line as they have been really for the last decade or so. Everyone is pretty much aware that Mercedes is having alot of problems with their current E-class and Ml's. There are some issues with the manufacturers, but as I stated before this is to be expected since technology in cars is much more advanced than ever.

To be leaders in innovation and technology always comes with some sort of price tag ....

The S6 will be quicker than the 550. It will also handly much better, and be the sports car between the two.

We traded an A6 Avant for a Magnum R/T with the 5.7 litre Hemi. The A6 had scads of mechanical and electronic problems; the Dodge has had none. Sure the Audi's interior is better, but for an additional 25 large it certainly should be.

Boy you BMW guys rant and rave don't you?

Not sure where you guys are coming up with A6s (or other Audis) having lots of problems. I have owned five Audis over the last 10 years or so (inluding currently a 2003 A6 2.7T and the wife has a 2006 A4 3.2).

I can unequivically say you are all full of crap. I have had little to no problems with any of them. I am so happy with the reliability that I have a 2007 A6 4.2 FSI on order that will be here in a few days (the 2.7T lease is expiring).

Also, not sure where you think A6s are slower than most 5 series or E series. The 4.2 does 0-60 in under 6 seconds. And 0-60 is not Audi's forte anyway. The real fun is the time from 30 to 70. In the midrange, the Audi is very strong as well. The only the 550 and E500 peeformance numbers are only a hair better. And given that they ar elighter due to no all wheel drive, they better be. But in anything other than clean dry pavement, the Audi will crush either one.

And to the guy whose girlfriend paid $55K for a 3.2 A6, the real issue is that she must be a moron because that would be over sticker. So please, get your facts straight. Otherwise it is obvious that you are just BMW pumpers that finally found an article in a third rate magazibe that had some negative things to say. I seem to have read numerous article about how BMW's SMG transmission and I-Drive blow donkey. And the E-lectrical nightmare was so bad that Mercedes had to pull the electonic brakes from the new models.

So give it a rest.

there are Audi's with issues and MB and BMW

I have customers come in all the time with BMWs and MB that have had issues and couldn't stand their cars. Thers was a time that we couldn't wholesale the 745s fast enough and there where plenty of people that were Paid to resolve a problem.

I have sold several brands and for the most part Audis have fiew issues and the quilty is among the best.

The new JD Power reports but Audi top in the german world and 6th overall. The A8 was the top car on the list but missed the ranking by 20 survays.

Electronics on the A6 are great and one of the strongest features that is why Qudi went with the electronics from the A6 for the new Q7.

Enjoy

Audi A6 is THE MOST RELIABLE CAR IN ITS CLASS, meaning that BMW guys should pipe down already. I also think that in a few years it may happen that VW will buy BMW, or Porche (since theres talk theyre buying VW)

BTW: I really like BMWs, but now Ill tell you what is wrong with them. THe crew and I did a comparison test between the A6, 5er, and the CLS. Close by there is a small racing track, where we usually go to make some sliding photos, but we decided to have a little race at the end just for fun. BMW was making noises all the time that things are broken, breakes are to hot..... at the end of the day we had to take it to the service all worried we broke it, and the mechanic immediately asked if we were pushing the car-he said it happens a lot with BMWs...
-- Ill give u a guess what Automobile magazine has been doing with that A6??? --Yep, drive it around like it is a undestructable sports car

Quattro47 said it before i could...THE AUDI A6 USED IN THE LONG-TERM AUTOMOBILE MAGAZINE WAS MOST-LIKELY A BAD SEED OUT OF THE FACTORY!

This happens to every car manufacturer, BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, and Infiniti included.

Wasn't it automobile magazine who had a long term test for the seven series and even though it was in the shop (for electric glitches nonetheless) for an extended period of time still found it in their hearts to love it? Its BS how much brand favoritism can factor into a magazine who should be unbiased in their reviews!

i have owned 4 audi since 1993, onw was a 1990, complete lemon but i lovedit, audi of america replaced the vehicle for me (great customer relations!) my second car a 1996 a4 was awesome but many problems also...my 2005 a6Q is the greatest vehicle i have owned/and driven, in every way, however, i have had my cd changer replaced, my trunk latch replaced, 3 rattles and one not fixed yet, but other than that it has been great! the service is second only to our local lexus dealer! I take 5-10 clients in my car each week here in So Fla. and each and every time they get in i get compliments from the interior, the back seat comfort and the gadgets and styling...many of these people drive E class-and hate theirs and said they will definitely look at the audi next time, and every person that has the new 5 series says bad things about it and wouldn't buy another..so no car is perfect but this is a true unique car and not a piece of nice mush like my last car a 2001 lexus GS!
