SPIED: Audi's BMW X6 Competitor Takes To The Track In Its First Form?
Although there's been rumors and allegations that Audi is preparing a BMW X6 competitor, generally speaking, we try not to buy "all in" to these rumors. You have to remember, until it's announced officially everything is pure speculation.

However, we do keep in mind that Audi is trying to grow its market share and keep its successful momentum full steam ahead. So is it likely the four rings would chase BMW into this new niche: absolutely.

Now we've just gotten hold of pictures, thanks to Auto Motor Und Sport, of what appears to be a Q5 mule that has been stretched. It's not exactly the best execution, so, we're chalking this up to an early development mule.

bmwm6, your rationale is laughable. Audi and MB are getting in the game because they know they can do it better, as they did outclassing the X5 (a large SUV without 7 seating capacity) and the X3 (a small SUV that was outclassed by both Audi and MB). The X6 is next. Audi already surpassed the 5-series in sales and performance with the 2012 model, and same story for the A8 against the 7-series. The A5 is an iconic car as is the TT. The R8 is king of the road and circuit. The A3 TDI is a big seller in the efficient vehicle market.
Next time you argue, use facts (like sales, comparos, motorsport wins, something other than your uninformed and blinded opinion).

erm... MeanVulcan, I know you're an audi fanboy, but before you start calling out arguments with facts, maybe you should look some up first.

"The A5 is an iconic car as is the TT. The R8 is king of the road and circuit."

Wow, you kind of lose all crediblitly with statements like these.

"They had to downsize the sales forecast for that car for underwhelming sales, and I won't even comment on it's polarizing styling"

That must be why Mercedes and Audi are making rivals for it b/c the sales are so weak....LOL. The X6 is a huge success end of story.

I don't know how anyone can tell that this is the X6 competitor. This could be a long wheel base q5 for the chinese market

There's even a 5 series and A6 that has been long wheelbased for the chinese market.

BMW always seems to miss the ball.

They had to resize the X5 bacause both Audi and Mercedes came out with 7-seaters, something BMW could not come up with themselves.

Then the X3 came out, and again Audi came out and outdid the X3 as the Q5 now leads the segment.

The X6 sales are a disappointment based on initial sales forecasts, and again I expect Audi and probably MB will come out with a more practical and better class competitor. It matters little nowadays who comes out to market first, rather who does it better.

I could also mention the 5-series GT disappointment given that BMW needs to bring back the 5-series wagon to make up for poor GT sales, but I'm not gonna go there.

Audi is on a roll, as it leads sales of A6 worldwide. They may not lead every market, but they sure lead in total, so partial market wins are even ridiculous to claim (funny!).

Here are some facts about US Sales:
2007 Audi sold about 32% of BMW and 37% of MB
2011 Audi is selling 57% of BMW and 47% of MB

Audi has increased the %german imports from 15% to over 20% in the past 4 years alone. So, is Audi a threat? absolutely. If you don't believe the sales, then there are plenty of motorsport wins to prove otherwise.

Audi rules!!!

in 2010 Audi sold 101629 vehicles in the US to BMW's 129176

You seem pretty pumped that they are still selling fewer vehicles.

an extra kick in the shins comes when you realize the average selling price for Audi is still under 50k meanwhile benz and bmw are over that. They still can't take the lead even with cheaper product!

Vulcan, it’s funny you only know facts for Audi, but know diddily squat about BMW, and Mercedes which makes it kind of hard to bash them...and makes you look like a joke. BMW sold 220,113 (not 129,176) vehicles in the US in 2010 more than double what Audi sold. Plus BMW is growing at more than twice the rate if Audi in China, and has closed the gap to within a few thousand vehicles of Audi within a year. Despite the fact Audi has been in china longer. Plus BMW doesn’t have to sell a cheap A1/Polo to inflate sales numbers; even the 1 series starts higher than the A3! How about BMW record profits? And they are independent...remarkable.
