CONFIRMED: One Of Hollywood's Elite Claims Ownership Of The Fisker Karma
There's been plenty of speculation over the first selected few to receive the Fisker Karma. Largely because one of the first couple was speculated to be Hollywood's golden boy, Leonardo DiCaprio.

Known for shouting he's the "King of the world" in Titanic, and for playing an undercover cop in The Departed, DiCaprio is undoubtedly an A-list celebrity. But instead of being spotted piloting high-end exotica and gas guzzling sport-utility vehicles, DiCaprio has been known to drive the Toyota Prius.

Well, it appears that look has changed pretty dramatically as he was spotted hopping into the Fisker Karma.

One of the first
Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid sports/luxury cars has been delivered to a high-profile celebrity, Leonardo DiCaprio to be precise. DiCaprio was spotted by TMZ while entering his new sports car. He prides himself on being green, he also prides himself on being cool, so he paid over $ 100,000 for the hybrid.

The
Fisker Karma drives its rear wheels using two rear-mounted 201.5 horsepower electric traction motors that draw energy from the lithium-ion battery pack for up to 80km. The gasoline engine drives a 175kW electric generator to power the motors. There is no mechanical link between this engine and the drive motors...

The reasons people buy these and other hybrids are as varied as those for brand affinity. Many love to characterize them as having one, incorrect reason and view the cars as overpriced, because it makes them feel good. The cost of the Karma in proportion to DiCaprio's income is probably the equivalent of you buying a toy car from a drug store, so if it's overpriced to him, it wouldn't be by a meaningful amount.

Also, this idea of the hybrid-buyer as one who believes he's saving the world has no basis in reality. It is a fiction created by those with a vested interest in the status quo and parroted by simpletons who want to appear wise.

The Karma is a good-looking and probably performs reasonably well. It wouldn't meet my needs, as I only have a budget for a daily driver, but I'm glad there are buyers to help push the technology along.

Am I the only one noticing a trend of articles seeping into this site with TMZ on/in them? Why is this? Is it what the agents watch on tv? Or is it like 001 and his personal investment in Apple?

It's not just this site; sadly, TMZ has made it's way into local (SoCal) news shows. Regardless, the, uh, respectability of Autospies will not be affected.

Just because you're used to it, doesn't mean everyone else is.
