Maserati Says Baby Quattroporte On The Way

The prediction of a baby Quattroporte which was supposed to hit the production line has been turned into reality after a conversation between Fiat’s CEO Sergio Marchionne and Italy’s Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Maurizio Sacconi.

Codenamed M157, the baby Quattroporte will be manufactured at the Grugliasco plant in Italy, after Fiat will invest 500 million euros. The ex-Bertone factory will also produce the next generation of the Quattroporte and the upcoming Maserati SUV, both of them hitting the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

It will be interesting how much or if Fiat will be able to tweek the chassis of the 300 to make it handle like a Maserati. One thing is for sure. They need to figure out how to take weight out of this chassis. This platform is very heavy!Further and I've said this before. Any company can turbocharge an engine to give it more power. The thing is that a person in the market for a Maserati might be a bit more dicerning in how the car feels while driving it then the average buyer. Therefore the engine had better be pretty special in overall performance and sound.Fiat already took the GM/Holden block and used Italian mechanicals to replace the old Alfa Aresi V6. It was not exactly a complete success. The power was so so but the engine sounded like a very muted Italian V6. By turbocharging the engine that might further muffel the sound. It may not translate.
