Obama Scraps New Federal Fuel Economy Standards Citing Expense And Economy
President Barack Obama on Friday scrapped his administration's controversial plans to tighten smog rules, bowing to the demands of congressional Republicans and some business leaders.

Obama overruled the Environmental Protection Agency and directed administrator Lisa Jackson to withdraw the proposed regulation to reduce concentrations of smog's main ingredient, in part because of the importance of reducing regulatory burdens and uncertainty for businesses at a time of rampant uncertainty about an unsteady economy.

This was a positive move considering the economy. Add jobs and when you are making money then think of these goals. Don't do it in the depths of an economic downturn.

Good job Obama?

I would not praise someone that releases a plan only to later convey that he had not done his due economic diligence. This is a guy that is surrounded by incompetence and can not take a leadership position.

He should have understood the consequences of his initial plan. To say that the economy is in a worse state than expected is hypocritical (since he's been claiming that its starting to get better... and due to BAD LUCK it has somehow gotten worse - LOL)

So you would have preferred him to continue down a path that would have caused more damage then good? Can't have him flip flopping! oh dear that would be terrible or something :S

Totally agree Joe.

I'm glad he showed he is able to do the right thing when it's the best thing for our country and for economy.

Great move Mr. President!

Keep it rolling!

Agent 001:

Despite how you may feel about his policies, you have been one of the few gentlemen and one who has openly showed some decorum and referred to him as "Mr. President"

You have class and it shows!! A tip of the hat to you!

Seems like he implements stuff and then it backfires.Looks like he will have to withdraw Obamacare since many states are saying it is unconstituional. It is also preventing from many companies from growing over the 49 employee mark.

I didn't realize you could provide a timeline for canceling something. Wouldn't it be along the lines of... telling everyone to stop, them stopping :P

Obama is so lost its not funny anymore. When he implemented the cash for clunkers, pre 84 cars were not allowed.I can understand registration for 2 years etc but why not the 84 and older cars.Second hand cars are 10 % higher in price because they crushed the good cars. The real gross polluters are still out there (clunkers) and people who needed help to buy cars never got help. Most of the people who traded theres were going to buy soon and did not need help.

Obama tries to change things like the fuel mileage, tax the very rich, the corporate people tell him what will fly and what won't, he will change little with taxing the rich, they make the rules, and the fuel mileage should improve, maybe a tax break for the big three auto companies that produce better economy?

Sounds like those $100 million in campaign donations from somewhere are working ... that't the only reason he changed his mind. Follow that money trail. I bet all the tea party people voted for him over McCain.

The Tea Party is funded/owned by an oil company, they can talk the talk, lol, but so can anyone that knows of the corruption in American politics.

so predictable...
blame Bush
blame Bush some more
keep blaming Bush
blame the tsunami
blame the nuclear fallout in Japan
blame the "extreme" earthquake on the North Atlantic
blame the "worst natural disaster in human history" (dramatized according to liberal media standards to help Obama's case) that was Hurricane Irene

if all that fails, blame BAD LUCK.

Not once, has this administration taken responsibility for THEIR ACTIONS!! Unbelievable.

The manufacturers that can't meet standards don't deserve to sell cars.

Sounds like corporate bribery in action.

Do you think this might come back to haunt us some day? Imagine a scenario some time in the future in which people desire more fuel efficient cars, so they and up buying foreign, and the American auto makers end up in trouble, or maybe even go bankrupt. I know this sounds a little extreme, but maybe it's worth consideration.

Naw, that would never happen. The Japanese could never build something Americans would want.

" A Little Extreme "

What you just described is EXACTLY what happened in the years leading up to 2008.

I can see two things hurting American manufacturers.
1) Big oil controlling diesel prices -artificially high- allowing the free market to set the prices would bring more competition and force american OEMs to actually have to build better vehicles to match the imports. Protectionism in the long run will hurt us.
2) Buying American, also in the long run is damaging OEMs because ignoring better build foreign vehicles only motivates american OEMS to keep building cheap cars, since they don't have to worry about the foreign competitors. Buying the best available vehicle the free market has to offer will force EVERYONE to compete. As an added note, what is realy american when components are bought globally. Why do we defend drug smoking drunken workers at GM, a company that practically stole taxpayer money to cover up their incompetence. Many fall prey to the "Made in Detroit" marketing campaign. The video visual is fantasy compared to what really goes on. If you want to buy American, at least buy a Ford - now there is a company I have RESPECT for.

Oh what's what? Staunch, rabid, liberal policies don't work? The American people want a more center oriented leader? But movies and television tell me that everyone likes hybrids, votes democrat, recycles, and supports same-sex marriage! That would mean the entertainment community is liberally biased! How can this be!?

Just another politically expedient odumbo move. His liberal left is hopping mad at this weevil brained president.
Everything obama does is only to get himself reelected. The country can go straight to hell (which it is) as long as odumbo gets reelected so he can stand in front of the White House mirror admiring his weevil brain.
