EVO Magazine picks the Lexus LFA over the Ferrari 599 GTO!

EVO magazine picks the LFA over the Ferrari, below is a quote from the article.
"What marks out the LFA for particular praise is its bravery and originality; for Lexus to create such a car from scratch, with no evolutionary engineering or existing bias from which to work, is a remarkable achievement. Innovative, extreme, immaculately executed and exquisite to drive, it’s the greatest high-performance car Japan has ever produced.

Get hung up on the badge and you’ll be blind to its magic. Revel in its rarity, its rare abilities and the fact we’re unlikely to see its like again and you’ll understand why the LFA is one of the greats, and why this test ends with three unexpected, hard-won and thoroughly deserved words: Lexus beats Ferrari."

Although the LFA won EVO did criticize the gearbox saying "... the GTO's light-switch-quick up and down shifts leave the Lexus' box breathless... it can be harsh and never has the refinement of the Ferrari. Given it's mated to an engine with a throttle so sharp and precise you could perform surgical procedures with it, that's a shame..." All in all a great comparison between two excellent vehicles and worth a read no matter what your opinion, the PDF is available from the source link.

That's a strange review, the LFA won since it was slower and less track focused. To each their own.

I think it was more focused on how the car felt to drive around (engine noise etc.) than pure speed cause the Ferrari was faster. I like how the LFA is well equipped in terms of tech (I like my tech) but being underpowered (in comparison) and being overweight didn't help it out in terms of speed... I guess that is why they decided to make a Nurburgring edition which seems to be a bit faster judging by the time it recently posted.

Until you are employed by a well respected automobile publication and become a certified race car driver or tester your preconceived notions hold NO weight whatsoever!

Oh? Is it qualifications that validate and give weight to our arguments? I'm a mechanical engineer, I've helped design, build, and raced a Formula race car, I've read numerous textbooks on vehicle dynamics, I've written numerous articles on vehicle dynamics, and I'm even starting an Engineering design firm to help out small high performance car companies, race teams, and high end tuning shop.

What kind of weight do your words hold?

Would you be so kind as to link to ONE of those articles you wrote? Or point us anywhere that has your name listed in the credits of that formula race car you helped build?

All your accolades you presented seem really impressive, but unless you have driven both cars(Lexus LFA & Ferrari 599 GTO)extensively such as Evo Magazine had/has only then would your specific view point be of any value. Thus your lofty achievements mean zero to me or any other car enthusiasts searching for unbiased facts. Your superlative deeds and specific hobbies you listed are of better use posted on your Facebook or Linkedin profile page.

Ok, so I'm not allowed to post an opinion of my own because I wasn't the person in the car. This could back to haunt you because I could follow up on all of your posts stating the very same argument.

On a related note, you still haven't answered me. What puts weight behind your words? Where are your opinions coming from?

The LFA is an offshoot of Toyota's Formula 1 program.
I doubt if they used only engineers with no Formula 1 experience and
am disagreeing with the 'no evolutionary engineering' statement.

Ferrari can't always win...it depends on the basis of the test and what the testers are looking for. That said, I wouldn't compare a GT (no matter how race focused) to a track ready car..doesn't make any sense. It seems price was the determining factor..A better comparison would be against the 458 or derivative (when available)

Congratulation Lexus on a Job Well Done and Keep up the good work. Make sure to bring back the Toyota Supra, Lexus GS-F and a "REAL" IS350 coupe.
