Roll Cage Fight: 2012 Toyota FJ vs. 2012 Jeep Wrangler Pentastar - Who's The Champ And Chump?

Roll Cage Fight: 2012 Toyota FJ vs. 2012 Jeep Wrangler Pentastar - Who's The Champ And Chump?
If one of your good buddies came up to you and asked something along the lines of:

"Which truck should I buy for less than $35,000?" you'd likely have a plethora of options. Just about anything your heart can imagine is beneath the five-digit figure. One thing though, before you get excited. It has to be a rugged off-roader.

See? Now that's where things get a little difficult because there aren't many choices out there. But if we had to name the top two picks, we'd suggest the:

1) Toyota FJ Cruiser
2) Jeep Wrangler

While the FJ's V6 was updated for the 2010 model year to 260 hp, the 2012 Wrangler bests that with the 285 hp Pentastar V6.

But in your eyes, WHICH one is better and WHY?

i searched the exact term you mentioned, and i got nothing.

i would be much appreciate if you mention strength and weakness of them, since i am thinking about getting one for vacation use, and i am not bias toward either.

Did you actually google it?

The best vehicle would be what you need the vehicle for, the FJ has a larger towing ability for 2011, I am not sure if Jeep has upped its towing ability, but if you want it for just gravel roads either would do, I test drove the 2012 Jeep Rubicon today, I drove the 6 speed two door,it had power to spare, then I drove a 2011 4 door auto, the power was way less than the 2012, but I loved the improved handling on the street, the 4 door would also be way faster on a gravel road, the 2 door felt tippy at speed, in my opinion the FJ just doesn't compare with the limited suspension travel, and only one locker, the Jeep has the option of two locking diffs and the Rubicon package, solid axles for off road are the way to go, so Jeep all of the way, the FJ is not designed for off road like the Jeep, check under the FJ and see how vulnerable the rad is if you were fording a semi frozen water crossing, and all of the problems Toyota has been having with the quality of the metal and rust I would not trust Toyota unless there was a third party verifying the metal quality.

Googling "wrangler frame" as opposed to "FJ frame" didn't yield any issue pages lol

For you people that have trouble with finding the link above here is the first of many, some serious problems here with Toyota frames, I suspect the quality of the metal and poor engineering, the FJ is more of a gravel road suv, although very refined, nice power and good tranny, but not designed for off road abuse clearly, a far cry from the old FJ's!

I broke my frame me too !!!
Hello
I broke my frame (chassis) under the motor.
Exactly where there 's square smelting.
It's the place of the frame who support the motor.
So the motor slightly move down...
I will repair it by smelting.
I have 2 cracks in the frame left and right.
The more important crack is to the right where i got an accident 1 years ago.
I do a lot of off-road (in Egypt).
But i really think it's a structural problem of Toyota.
Because it's on the 2 sides
and i've bulges cracks on the 2 inner fenders...
I regret my Landcruiser 80 !!!
FJ Cruiser is too fragile... Is it a **** ???
I just read only one post with this problem.
I broke my frame!
Stephan

Ellard, there were like two Jeeps that caught fire, nothing of any concern, did you check out the many blogs about weak FJ frames? now that is of concern.

As you can see that there is no debate or questioning about Toyota quality or lack of it, Toyota fans are blind to the quality issues, I used to be a Toyota fan, then again I love and hate them all, lol, but if you want to be de boosted state some facts that make Toyota look bad and regardless how true it is you will be deboosted, lol, It's just not Toyota fans that choose to be ignorant, it's because of blind followers that the manufacturers can get away with bad quality, thank you.

Jeep might be real enough but the FJ/Land Cruisers have roamed around the entire world for decades. Think what the preference is for an off-road in Africa, Latin America and Australia and the answer is Land Cruisers and Land Rovers. Mind you, I'm an ex-Toyota fan, but a Land Cruiser is a Land Cruiser.

The reason LR and Toyota are in remote areas is more to do with parts supply, the Jeep is way more capable off road, and if you choose to the Jeep has about 10x the aftermarket to support parts for a custom build,in the 80s to the mid ninety's I would rather have the Toyota, when Toyota went with the independent front suspension that is where they lost me, they are way too car like and no longer a capable 4x4, although I mostly agree with theoptimisticpessimist, except I would never buy the FJ for a nice ride, the 4 door Jeep Rubicon has a great ride that is better than my 2007 Civic in most cases.

Wrangler = Champ. There is a Brotherhood that the Jeep owners have similar to the Harley D croud. This has not developed by accident. Jeep has always been the benchmark for offroaders.

FJ = Chump

I love both of these REAL SUV, they are both phenomenal off-roaders. If I only had one vehicle to drive then it would be the FJ. The FJ has best in class road manner for a auto with its off-road capabilities, I nice to drive in town or on the high till you get to the dirt. That said if I had one just as a toy it would be the Jeep Rubicon. The Rubicon come with everything out of the box to make you an off-road champ, I love have to solid axles in the back country. The big reason I would rather have the Jeep is visibility. With Jeep lower green house and easy to see fenders it's just easier to maneuver, The FJ has to many design compromises to know exactly where the wheels are. In any case both are terrific.

And yes I have driven both.
