SPIED: BMW's Next-Gen 3-Series Compared Side-By-Side With Current 3-Series
Although there have been plenty of spy images and videos of the upcoming, next-generation BMW 3-Series, there has yet to be a direct, side-by-side comparison of the E90 and F30.

From what we've seen, we haven't exactly been able to say how much of a difference the new car would be apart from the E90. What we do know is that it appears to take a lot of cues from the F10 5-Series.

With that said, now we have the chance to get a good look at how it compares to the E90 proportionally and from a design perspective.

And from what we can see in our cover shot, it's pretty clear that the vehicle will receive an evolutionary design rather than a revolutionary one. Looking at both vehicles from the rear quarter, most of the car's lines are repeated in the same fashion. Note: the Hofmeister Kink and creased bone line, which look nearly identical to the current car.

Dial in some F10 cues, regarding the trunk and taillights and blam-o, it looks like you have a next-generation 3'er.

Despite the myriad of F30 3 series sedan test mule spy photos we've posted thus far, there has yet to be a direct F30 versus E90 3 series spotting, until now. Although it's only one view for now, it gives us the best idea yet of how the new 2012 3 series F30 sedan will compare to the outgoing E90 3 series with respect to size, proportions, rear styling, and stance. Thanks to F30post member CSL-Fanatik...

...The F30 and E90 seem similar, which should assuage the fears of 3 series fans who cringe at the potential of a much larger 3 series. The F30 3 series is believed to be just a tad bit larger with slightly longer wheelbase. Any extra length should be offset however, by the F30's very short overhangs and wheels pushed out to the corners - which maintain the car's squat and athletic stance.

Proportions remain attractive, with the F30 receiving what may be a slightly higher looking greenhouse/cockpit (which may simply be due to a lowered door line), and a sleeker C-pillar-to-trunk transition compared to the E90...

Hope the interior is a lot better since the outside won't be much different

Could be that BMW is reading the current economic climate and public sentimant.
You don't want your neighbours to think you're that well off that you can afford a new BMW - so make the new look old.
It's genius...

It is mandatory for BMW to do an excelent replacement cause last month almost half of the sales of this brand were 3 series, so if this car does not success...BMW could be in problems with the emerging companies.

More like a refresh rather than a redesign.

The Good news is not following the trend of growing in size like most of the other cars in this class. It appears to be roughly the same size as the old one.

@Black...

Well, considering the E-Class is selling well I don't think MB cares...

After the whole Bangle fiasco, I don't blame them for being conservative. The 5 is selling well and a simple refresh (in design) should be enough to keep the momentum going.
