Why would Toyota issue a recall designed to make vehicles less safe?

Gotta love that Toyota quality! Sounds like as of late, new Toyotas are really not any better than GM or Fords...having quite a few issues. This here is a slap in the face to current Tundra owners and if I owned one I would be furious, then I would go down to the nearest Chevy or Ford dealer and purchase one of their trucks. I would gladly take a cheaper interior any day over the safety of my child!

Please stop. Toyotas never have problems. Stop spreading the bad press immediately.

You anti-Toyota guys either don't know how to read or - worse - choose not to. Toyota was trying to do the right thing, but the government wouldn't allow it.

Typical journalism. Scan it like most will and it will seem that Toyota are the bad guys. But in actual fact they are trying to improve safety.

This has NOTHING to do with quality issues, if anything they are making things better for the public. Very naughty Autospies not good at all.

huu76 - This is a different twist, more of an update and asks more specific questions as to why.

CarMad - Have you seen the posts on the Toyota recall supression and cover ups? So far there top executives are facing charges of covering up recalls and safety defects. These may be an errant few (I hope)but it also may be the tip of the iceberg.

This story still emphsises the fact I posted several times regarding the slipping quality of these Toyotas. I hope by now everyone will examine Toyota/Lexus very carefully before buying. The Japs are really taking us in a ride due to their unlimited spending on media to cover up their mischiefs.
Wake up Guys and Girls, do not let them fool you no longer. Go back and read what I have posted about my Lexus LX-470 1998 model which I am still having problems with to-date!
By the way, I purchased a Hummer3 two months back and its really a treat especially off-road, on sandy dunes and tough terrain. The climate here in Saudi is harsh to say the least but the Hummer3 is proving to be a robust contender. Good for you GM. Keep up the good work Guys & Girls.

i just read that the lx will not be continued as a lexus model, will only be the toyota land cruiser. the lexus full size will be sequoia based, caled the jx

Rupert where did you read that story please? I remember something like that being written a couple of years ago, but my informal source suggested in some markets there will be a new LX based on the LandCruiser.

Maybe if the SUV market revives in the US then Lexus will have the JX and the LX. Personally I think the GX is a bit of an engineering and sales disaster. The GX is top heavy, doesn't do well in cross-winds on the highway, and has very little to justify a price of $10,000 higher than a better handling Toyota 4Runner.

However if AutoSpies posted notes from every Mercedes customer who is having problems with far newer Mercedes vehicles then there wouldn't be room for any other news. In particular consider Mercedes vehicles built in the years 2000, 2001 and 2003.

MercBasher....what I've read is that they were supposed to do it in early/mid 2005 and then bring out the replacement in late 2005/early 2006. But I haven't seen anything else come across the wire and that would be huge news indeed.

mercbasher, i got it from wikipedia so it may not be all that reliable. we get the gx in the form of the land cruiser (what you call the land cruiser is called the land cruiser amazon here), and it is probably the WORST suv on the uk market today. completely out of kilter with the q7 or gl or even the LR3, then landie being suprisingly composed on the road. and it looks way better than the land cruiser.

btw for "in some markets" read the middle east. they love those things over there, they're good on sand.

The reason why a parent would put this seat in the front is because in an extended cab (not crew cab) rear facing seats have a hard time fitting properly in the back. That is why the latch system is also supposed to be installed on the front seat of trucks... So actually it will be a lot less safe because with the removal of the switch the airbag is always on meaning that if a family can not fit the rear facing seat in the back they have to put it up front,,, see the negligence Toyota is putting out?
