Hybrid and Electric Owners Miffed At Being Treated Like "Normal" Drivers In Car Pool Lanes
The MTA plans to convert carpool lanes on two Los Angeles-area freeways to toll roads, with fees of up to $1.40 a mile for solo drivers of electric and other alternative-fuel vehicles.
Drivers of electric and other alternative-fuel vehicles enjoy a special perk: They can drive solo in California's carpool lanes.
But under a controversial plan proposed by local traffic agencies, those drivers will have to pay to use two heavily used carpool lanes that are being converted to toll roads.

A hybrid vehicle with single occupant (i.e. driver only), Prius, Lexus, or other, does not belong in a car pool lane.

Weren't they discontinuing the EV/hybrid permission in the car pool lane? It's not surprising that they will get charged like everyone else, their vehicles cause just as much wear on the roads as everyone elses.

The whole idea of converting to tool roads is a load of crap. Just amother way of getting our hard earned dollar. The tax payer has already paid to build the freeway and we are charged tax on our fuel to take care of maintenance. The local polititians have squandered the revenue and now have figured a way to get more. Our freeways are a mess but we will still pay for the freeloaders.

Normal drivers miffed at Hybrid and electric drivers for driving 10 miles below the speed limit in the passing lane and for being allowed to drive in the HOV lanes with single occupants.
Attention miffed Hybrid and Electric drivers: SACK UP or take your cars to city streets where they below, for efficient operation of your hybrid/electric drive systems.

California is starved for revenue. This should come as no surprise.
