If they can implement this without significantly hurting performance, they will be fine. That said, most Volvo buyers are not looking for performance vehicles. They are looking for reliability.

BWM has already replaced its base inline 6 with turbo 4s - the movement is starting and 5 years from now, don't be surprised if you can't find a 6 cylinder anywhere.

If most volvo buyers were looking for reliability they would be looking at other brands its funny how people here quote statistics as if they themselves did a study and know what most buyers of some brand want. Volvos are not that reliabile fyi. As far as Volvo having an all 4 cylinder lineup it doesnt really make sense and is actually contrary to the fact the company stated earlier their ambitions to take the brand upscale. I can see them dropping the V8 all together and ditching the 5 cylinder but I dont see them losing a 6 cylinder engine in their lineup.

- So in 5 years a BMW 750Li or a MB E550 will be 4-cylinder cars?
