WHICH and WHY? Would You Rather Be In An Accident In A VW Jetta OR Hyundai Elantra?

WHICH and WHY? Would You Rather Be In An Accident In A VW Jetta OR Hyundai Elantra?
Now I know the last thing anyone wants to think about is getting into an accident; however, if you are like me and spend a lot of time behind the wheel it's almost a certainty it will happen. Really, it's just a matter of time.

With that said, plenty of people buy vehicles solely on how they rate in crash tests. But for our purposes we're going to throw those results out the window. We want to know what you think, specifically, what your gut is picking.

So think long and hard. If you were going to be in an accident which would you pick? And WHY?

And for those wondering, both the 2011 Hyundai Elantra and Volkswagen Jetta were Top Safety Picks as determined by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Europeans have been a lot longer in the Safety Category as the Asians have been in the Miles Per Gallon Category.... So I am inclined to trust it in a crash more

Designing to pass known, specified tests is fairly easy. Designing for all of the variation of accidents on the planet, now that is a challenge. I'll give the nod to the Germans for that engineering.

In Germany at least they have comprehensive investigations of accidents on the autobahn in which the car manufacturer is involved. They are constantly designing/redesigning for real world accidents. VW any day!

I'd rather ruin a boring econobox like the Jetta than a more exciting car like the Elantra (yes, the Mazda3 and Forte are more fun than both, but the new Jetta is a straight-up appliance) . The thought of ruining the Elantra's fluid bodywork sickens me.

You completely missed the point. The question is not about the car, the question is about the occupant(s).

In the famous words of Porsche engineers on how they apply their experience to the design of their cars "we drive to work at 190km per hour on the Autobahn, they go to work sitting on a train reading the Asahi Shimbun". Same thing with designing their cars to deal with accident, Germany has longer, broader and deeper experience with car and road accidents than Korea ever will.

Volvo isn't safer than VW or the Elantra, they have just advertised the safety... and yes Volvo was the first to install seat belts, but they are not the safest manufacturer around, Toyota advertises that they are more reliable...and Volvo..

1911 would rather have a ricer spoiler on his modified (i.e. flashing tire stems) CRX. Cause then he'll be able to take on mustangs lol.

What the hell!
If you are going to die anyway...Die in an Enzo or a Veyron..
Its a shame to be found dead in a tuner box!

Could you provide a quote of me saying that? lol

I can make stuff up about you too

1911 believes that massive spoilers on FWD cars adds 20hp.
1911 believes that catalytic converters enable cars to emit cleaner air then they consume.

Either way you're doing other motorists a favor by removing two ugly cars from the roads. Only the company you rented either car from is going to be pissed.

I'll take the Elantra. I'd be afraid of being baked like challah in a simple fender bender in the VW.

Now this discussion is BEYOND ridiculous... I asked about the news circulating the ENTIRE web about the recent Cadillac ATS pics and I get ignored. Yet this makes it as an article... *SMMFH*
