Infiniti's Looking To TRIPLE Sales -- How Can It Get There?
If you've been watching Infiniti over the past several years, you'd notice that the company has been making steps to create growth. It has begun developing alternative energy vehicles, added a sportier line up to the mix and has even been on the record about a front-wheel drive product.

In all likelihood that means the marque is going to start producing entry-level premium segment vehicles as we have seen Audi, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz do.

Everyone's chasing the market share and you know what they say: if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Although the other automakers have brought products to market -- some more successful than others -- what does Infiniti need to do to differentiate itself from the pack?

Infiniti aims to have a market share of 10 per cent in the luxury car segment by 2016, company chiefs have told Autocar. That would mean almost tripling its current sales figure of 170,000 units to about 500,000.

The Japanese brand plans to launch a raft of new models during the next five years, including its first front-wheel-drive car and a C-segment model inspired by the Etherea concept...

Infiniti needs an image builder and enthusiasts passing on its merits by word of mouth...build a small, light weight high quality, high performance three box coupe (ala first BMW 3 series, Datsun 510, Lotus
Ford Cortina, etc etc)with four wheel drive and a manual. Price it
right (loss leader) to get it into the hands of enthusiasts and enter it in races and more races...in fact start a one car series worldwide.
Build your brand at grass roots level, bottom up not top down and you'll
generate sales across the model range at more profitable level. Don't aim to be the next BMW just fill the void it left behind years ago.

Well the easy way would be to move down stream. Offer an infinity badged Versa to compete with those Lexus hatches.

Here's a thought:
Build well designed, reliable, reasonably priced cars which are fun to drive - it works for BMW...

You just described Infiniti right now, BMW really cant be included in reasonably priced when in reality its cars are thousands more than the ones from Infiniti. Your statment is a list of things Infiniti is doing well at, I think they should instead of focusing on value focus on building higher quality cars without value as a consideration they have been making cars just as long as Lexus they shouldnt have to clutch the value card so hard. Make the cars more refined and with higher quality interiors....not to mention a midsize suv that isnt so polarizing i love personally love the FX but for a typical famiy maybe not so much. The small luxury suv segment is booming right now where is the new EX. The new M is more in line with its competitions pricing and its a great car(I think its ugly, but its a good car) apply this higher quality thinking to the whole lineup...

Right, Infiniti already does that. The brand really does need a next-gen Q-ship --- offering low availability but possessing all the tech found in the QX. They would get descent sales from a new Q, but that help add more attention to the M. Kinda like how the Lexus GS gets a bit more attention in relation to the LS flagship. If the LS didn't exist, the GS just wouldn't be considered "enough" or "adequate" for the category.

The upcoming JX will perry some needed attention from the new FX by offering a more widely acceptable package for family-oriented consumers. But the EX needs to be replaced by a taller, wider small luxury SUV.

Both Audi and Infiniti are looking at the big guys and thinking "we can move faster than you" A raft of newer models will give them the leverage to gain on the sloth like updates in the segment.

@ Agent009, I am pretty sure Audi is already one of the big guys. About 1.3 million units this year alone are predicted. You should read the article in AE about the 3 titans of the luxury global market.

Sloth like updates in this segment? Based on the fact that Audi does evolutionary changes to its models with the each new generation I dont think you can accurately(we know your just another audi fanboy) say Audi isnt moving at a sloth pace.....In american at least Audi has a long way to go, and instead of focusing increasing sales volume why not focus on making their cars more reliable. Who cares if its "initial" quality is good its almost 2012 there is no excuse why Audi and VW for that matter still cant put together reliable cars..

Or infinity could rebadge a nissan versa for some easy sales (not recomended though). Just like the Audi A1/polo.

Ever heard the saying "you get out what you put in"? Well Infiniti spent the 90's putting in a lackluster effort building their products and strengthening their image. As a result, Infiniti is still suffering from having a weak brand presence with the average consumer.

No disrespect to the lineup, but without the G, Infiniti would be irrelevant. I don't believe their image will ever be on par with BMW, Benz, Lex or even Audi when their entry level model has essentially been their "flagship".

Make the next EX a good X5 and ML or X3 and RX competitor. FX competes very well with comparable X6 and Cayenne. Also a 1 series, A3, CT200h competitor would boost sales.

Easy. Infiniti's problems can be solved by making halo cars. Expand the IPL (Infiniti Performance Line, which currently only includes the lackluster G IPL) by dumping the GT-R's V6 in the M. On second thought, the G IPL should have those 480hp too, so an engine swap is in order there. Also, do a luxury 370Z. Infiniti just needs publicity, and there's no better way to do that than with a halo car, although its upcoming electric should get plenty of attention too. It worked for Audi with the R8.

All the relatively obscure brands should do daring performance cars. There should have been a Lincoln version of the Mustang (just reskin the thing and upgrade the interior), although it's too late now. Hmm, what else? For starters, a hyper-Kizashi should take on the Impreza STi and Evo, and Saab should drop an M3's V8 in the 9-5 (remember Saab's new partnership with BMW).
