Huh? Obama Administration Wants Banks To Cover Losses Under Automaker Bailout
The Obama administration said Monday it wants to make the nation's largest banks pay for the losses incurred in the $85 billion auto and other bailout programs.

As part of the administration's proposal to cut the deficit by more than $3 trillion over 10 years, the White House has resurrected a proposal to create a "Financial Crisis Responsibility Fee" — raising $30 billion over 10 years.

The fee is aimed at recouping losses from the government's $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program — the emergency fund created in 2008 by Congress to rescue banks, insurance companies and automakers.

In January 2010, President Barack Obama first backed imposing a fee on big banks to cover auto losses — after Rep. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield Township, introduced a bill to do so in late 2009. At the time, the fee was expected to raise $90 billion over 10 years from the 50 largest institutions, including Ally Financial Inc., the Detroit-based auto and mortgage lender

This isn't really paying back the automakers share... it's getting them to pay back the original $700 billion bank share. Which in turn is Obama being an Indian Giver... sure here have this money... couple years later... ya I'm gonna need that back...

I agree with your first point. Many in the (very right wing) auto media are spinning this as a cash grab of Obama's to banks in order to pay for GM and Chrysler. How about it's just that banks pay back what banks were lent, and we can't get anymore from GM and Fiat, so we wash our hands of some of those losses.

On the second issue, I won't even mention that awful expression. Okay, I just did. But why should we now not expect banks to pay back some more money? Wasn't this always assumed? These were never intended to be giveaways. Many banks have paid back their TARP funds (BofA, Citi, Wells). GM and Chrysler have also paid back much of their loans. Furthermore, these financial institutions are sitting on trillions in profits now, money they're not lending out. Soem of the biggest TARP recipients are the ones who have paid back the least, both on a percentage and a dollar amount. They are the ones being singled out with this latest proposal. I have no problem with them being asked to kick in some more of their largesse, because we the taxpayers helped them out in their time of need, and they sure aas hell are not doing their fair share in return now.

The American banks are criminals and rob there own people, the Federal reserve should go back into being run by the American Gov, yes the gov owns a few %, but the private sector has all of the control, JFK will tell you the same thing, he paid his life to attempt to change this, the auto companies should be bailed out, the banks all got there bail outs, where would the banks be without them? the banks would be bankrupt without them, imagine laying off the big three, home losses, the economy would come to a screeching stop, I think if there is another bail out the execs shouldn't get a cent! No bonuses!

Either a billionaire deboosted me or someone doesn't know that they are branwashed, or maybe they don't like Obama? I would rather see Ron Paul run the country, he would put a stop to all of the bs in your screwed up country.

Angrygrinch, Obama is just a puppet, If he was allowed to run America he may be terrific? just like the rest of the presidents, they are mere mascots and do what they are told with the exception of JFK, Ron Paul would also be an exeption, Even George Bush was told to keep his mouth shut when he made a negative statement about how the banks are robbing the American people, the banks threatened to sue him, there wasn't much he could have done being a puppet.

Ellard, I love hearing about all of the conspiracy theories... and I know that the Freemasons think that they are running the world, I know a few of them, they don't run a thing! they know nothing! and reptile Jews? this is ridiculous and racist, this is where Hitler went wrong, he blamed all of the Jewish race because of a handful of crooked bankers were Jewish, he should have killed just the bankers regardless what race they were, now look at where we are today, probably about the same as we are today, America especially, the Fed is so backwards, the rich are getting richer and poor poorer, soon America will be like South Africa with the majority of the population uneducated, everyone will need guns and high fences with attack dogs, flamethrowers on your cars for the poor car jackers just trying to come up with rent and food, how far will we let the extreme rich push the majority of the population? Education should be mandatory for all people and this includes College and University, it will pay off with less misfits and a safer society in the long run, the Gov. will also get away with less, this is why it will never happen. So Ellard lets look at history and never let mistakes happen twice, Hitler killed homosexuals, polish people...maybe he would have killed you and I too?

This is what you get when you elect someone who believes that government's purpose is to settle scores instead of keeping order and protecting the border.

I always love reading blogs that pretend to be auto focused but really simply exist to take shots at President Obama.

BTW who here thinks TARP was a bad idea? If you raised your hand send an email to GEORGE W. BUSH since he is the genius who masterminded it originally.

Most people give the presidents way too much credit, Obama would have done exactly the same as Bush, not that Obama would want to, the puppet masters behind the scenes pull the strings, this was the foundation of the Tea Party, fed up with the corruption, ironically they are funded by the oil companies too, lol, so they are just talk too, Ron Paul would have been your best bet, the Gov. would kill him for sure, just like JFK, have you noticed all of the politicians promising things they would love to do, but clearly they were not allowed, there is close to being a revolution in America now, there is almost a media blackout on it.

It's basically restitution for the $700 Billion that the financial institutions stole from the taxpayers(us) with zero accountability. F--- em'. However, I'm really concerned about the $1.5 Trillion in tax increases Obama's wanting. WTF??? In an election year!!!
