Class Action Suit Filed Against Mercedes-Benz For AMG Engine Issues
A class action suit is being brought against Mercedes / Daimler AG due to alleged defects in the M156 V8 motor. The suit states that these defects are due to premature wear. The premature wear taking place as a result of the material used in the camshafts. The camshafts used are made of cast nodular iron. The valve lifters used however are made of 9310 grade steel. In the official complaint it is stated that the combination of these metals as designed is contributing to premature wear of the M156 motors. This can be due to improper heat treating of the metals or improper offset. The main sticking point is that Mercedes and AMG have known about this since 2007

If they do not address this asap , that's going hurt the AMG sales for long time, even if all other engines are ok. In 2012 the only car using the M156 will be the C but even in that case all other users won't thrust the new engines.

Very unreliable? Hmm lets see....

The 2006 VDS ratings for the German Big Three Vs the Japanese Big Three:

Lexus 136
Acura 184
Infiniti 215

For a average of 178 or 1.78 issues (not repairs) over 3 years. Round that up to 2 visits to the dealer.

BMW 215
Merc 240
Audi 279

For an average of 2.45 or 2.45 issues (not repairs) over 3 years. Round that up to 3 visits to the dealer.

I'm not sure if I would call 1 potential extra visit over 3 years a major concern.

You might even have better odds of having a wreck in the same time frame and then the higher crashworthiness of the Germans are definitely in your favor. Just play the numbers and hope you come out on top.

angryinch1,

Why do Lexus fans have to pollute every post with this "Lexus is better than brand x crap"? Lexus fans are the worst (and also delusional). If the cars were actually better you guys wouldn’t have to contaminate every post with this BS. It would already be the consensus. You guys aren’t convincing anyone that Lexus is on par with BMW, Audi or MB. Maybe other car dumb Americans will believe it but everyone else knows better.

And besides, someone posted a link showing that the IS-F requires twice as much maintenance than its competitors. Yet you don't have anything to say about that? Don’t answer that. The reason you won’t comment on that is because Lexus fans will never admit that other cars may do something better than Lexus. Truly clouded.

CarreraGT,

Since there isn't a single counter to your posts from my fellow Lexus fans, I'd like to offer this: Enough of your lies!!!! Lexus requires less trips for maintenance than any other brand ever created. I guess my fellow Lexus fans are gathering the info to counter the BS that you posted. Just wait...

This is interesting : Not just one law firm. It appears to be 3 of them. It's probably not a coincidence, but the other 2 are the same firms and attorneys that sued BMW for the HPFP defect in the N54.

But read what they are claiming is "dependability".

Ahhh! That cup holder doesn't hold my 64oz big gulp very well.

That is the same as my transmission failed and left me dead on the road.

You gotta read between the lines with the VDS.

"LONG-TERM UPDATE: 2007 Lexus LS 460 L

"Here in the third quarter, however, we've noticed the car showing its age, just a bit. 'After getting out of a fresher example of the Lexus LS 460 L last weekend, I noticed that our door panels creak every time you start accelerating and brake,' noted one staffer. 'I guess 13,000 miles will do that to you, but you would figure that this Lexus flagship would stay tighter longer.'"

- Lies!!!!!! Everyone knows that the Lexus LS460 is made out of a solid block of silver. It is impossible for any interior seem of a Lexus to creak. C’mon fellow Lexus fans; why aren’t you attacking this guy for posting a BS negative article about the King-Of-All-Luxury-Sedans the Lexus LS-460?

- So the Automakers should be allowed to build engines that prematurely fail without repercussion?

Whoever deboosted my comment is a Corporate Shill.

A large corporation is selling defective engines. People are coming together to sue them. And the only thing that some people can say here is "Why am I NOT surprised this is happening in sue happy U.S.A!".

Most people here are nothing but corporate shills. Try to sue a corporation in America and you will get regular folks calling them "sue happy". LOL!! That’s right you corporate shill. Protect those corporations. Corporations should be allowed to make defective engines, and if someone tries to sue them, the corporate shills will call them "sue happy". Fight against your own self interest much?

And that's why you buy a Porsche, it's engines are bulletproof (with the exception of the oil main seal leak) and can be tracked REGULARLY every weekend.

"And that's why you buy a Porsche, it's engines are bulletproof (with the exception of the oil main seal leak)" — quizz

- Lexus motors are also bulletproof, plus they don’t suffer from that oil seal problem. Which means that the Lexus motors are better than Porsche's.

"and can be tracked REGULARLY every weekend." — quizz

- So can every Lexus. In fact, every Lexus that was ever created was designed for the race-track. Lexus cars rule all forms of racing from F1 down to Autox.
